It’s that time of year once again! Football Absurdity will bring you a breakdown of every notable fantasy football-relevant player throughout June, July, and August. Now that we’ve finished with the main bulk of the player profiles, it’s high time that we fill in around the edges with extra players that you need to know. The Miami Dolphins traded DeVante Parker to their division rivals this offseason, and Parker immediately became their most talented wide receiver. But, his durability has been a concern. Can we take a shot on DeVante Parker late in our fantasy football drafts, or is he fool’s gold in 2022?
DeVante Parker ADP and AAV:

2022 DeVante Parker Overview:
DeVante Parker is immediately the most talented wide receiver on the New England Patriots, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that he is going to be the most productive wide receiver in the group. And, ultimately, in our silly little game, we are less concerned with overall talent as we are with overall talent converted into productivity. The Patriots have traditionally gone with a running back by committee approach, mixing and matching their backfield much to the chagrin of fantasy football managers.
Unfortunately, that seems to be the plan with the wide receiver room, as well. With Parker, Kendrick Bourne, Nelson Agholor, and Jakobi Meyers leading the way, the room is not only crowded, but it’s relatively flat from a talent perspective.
So, it looks like DeVante Parker won’t get the same volume that he’s grown accustomed to in Miami, where he averaged 7.6 targets per game over the last three seasons. For him to reach that same 129 target pace in 2022, he would need to have about a 24% target share. Given the depth in the wide receiver room, which also includes Tyquan Thornton, as well Hunter Henry, I doubt he gets up to that target share. The leader in that category last season, Jakobi Meyers, is still there and had that 24% target share. So, unless they plan on giving Parker & Meyers 40%+ of the targets, we have to assume that everyone drops down to a lower share.
2022 DeVante Parker Fantasy Football Draft Strategy:
Unfortunately, dropping down that target share will crush all of DeVante Parker’s week-to-week value. Granted, he is the best bet to finish the highest in the Patriots’ wide receiver corps for fantasy football, but that has to do with the high likelihood that he leads this wide receiver room in touchdowns. At 6’3” and 219 pounds, he’s the tallest and heaviest wide receiver there, which means that he will be the red zone weapon. But, that doesn’t mean that I want to draft him.
He’s drafted in just 3% of salary cap drafts and has an ADP of WR56, 135 overall in snake drafts. I would rather take a shot on Jalen Tolbert (WR70) than Parker, and I can’t really see a world where anyone would want to get DeVante Parker on their squad. At best, he’s a team’s WR5.
Best Case Scenario:
DeVante Parker finishes with 750 yards and 10 touchdowns, and is a top-20 wide receiver.
Worst Case Scenario:
Bill Belichick declares it to be “Chicken Feed Season” which means that Mac Jones cannot throw to any receiver until he’s thrown to all the other ones. Because of this, DeVante Parker’s volume-based appeal dries up entirely.
