It’s that time of year once again! Football Absurdity will bring you a breakdown of every notable fantasy football-relevant player throughout June, July, and August. We continue with the wide receivers. Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers made for one of the most potent two-man games in any NFL passing attack. Yet, Adams went off to silver…er pastures this offseason as he traded in his GORE-TEX for a Roulette For Dummies book, moving from Green Bay to Las Vegas, and reuniting with his college quarterback, Derek Carr. What can we expect from Davante Adams headed into the 2022 fantasy football season in his new desert digs? Let’s take a look at his 2022 fantasy football player profile!

2022 Davante Adams Fantasy Football Overview:
It’s hard to know where to start with Davante Adams, as Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers are sort of a “better than the sum of their parts (but the sum of their parts is still ridiculously good)” situation. For example, per PlayerProfiler, Davante Adams had the second-most catchable targets and was sixth in true catch rate (catch rate on catchable targets) among receivers with at least 90 catchable targets. So, Rodgers threw him a ton of catchable footballs, and Adams came down with them at a ridiculous clip. So, they came together to make sweet music. But, what about with Derek Carr? Can Adams and Carr recreate their time in Fresno, where Derek Carr and Davante Adams connected on 9 catches for 117 yards and 1.5 touchdowns per game in their two seasons together?
Well, ignoring the Carr2Adams existing connection, Derek Carr is already an astonishingly accurate quarterback. Those five receivers with 90 catchable targets? One was Adams’ new teammate Hunter Renfrow. Carr, according to PlayerProfiler.com, had the second-highest accuracy rating and the seventh-highest true completion percentage in 2021. Adams’ former quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, ranked thirteenth and fifth in these categories, respectively. So, there isn’t a massive drop-off there.
The major concern for Adams in Las Vegas is that there are two other targets there who will demand attention, with Hunter Renfrow becoming the new slotness (coining that, do not steal) in the NFL, and Darren Waller as one of the more prolific and productive tight ends in recent seasons. No disrespect to Allen Lazard and Robert Tonyan, but they aren’t quite up to Renfrow & Waller in terms of talent level. So, obviously, Adams’ 35% target share has to go down. But how far does it far, 28%? That’s still elite, despite it cratering his target share… but it would still be 175 targets if Carr throws as often as he did in 2021.
2022 Davante Adams Fantasy Football Draft Strategy:
Davante Adams Salary Cap Value: $50
Draft Ranking: Find out for your league settings in a Beersheet! (coming in early July)
In salary cap drafts, Davante Adams represents a nice discount from the top-three wide receivers in price, as he goes for $49, but Kupp, Jefferson, and Chase all go for between $62 and $56, meaning they’re all, functionally, the same price. But with Adams, you can get top-flight production potential at a discounted value, and you have enough money left over ($14) to add a Diontae Johnson ($13.8) or DJ Moore ($11.4) at value. Adams has a rock solid floor and a decent ceiling, so if you want him, I can’t quibble with his cost. I can say, however, that I would likely prefer Mike Evans for $15 cheaper than Adams. But that’s true of a lot of guys who go for more than Mike Evans.
In snake drafts, I don’t really “get” Adams’ rank at eleventh overall. That’s sort of a dead zone though, with Kelce, Adams, Chubb, Diggs, and Javonte Williams all having significant question marks. I can see taking him there and letting whichever running back falls to you, or if Kelce falls to you in the second, and just letting the board dictate your roster. It’s not what I would do, but I can see it.
Best Case Scenario:
Aaron Rodgers and Derek Carr do a body swap, Freaky Friday style.
Worst Case Scenario:
David Carr and Derek Carr do a body swap, Freaky Friday style.
