It’s that time of year once again! Football Absurdity will bring you a breakdown of every notable fantasy football-relevant player throughout June, July, and August. We continue with the wide receivers. Today, we look at a wide receiver who is such a massive mismatch for his offense that he seemed to immediately regret signing there. With a whole year without scoring a touchdown under his belt, what can we expect from Kenny Golladay in 2022 fantasy football leagues?

2022 Kenny Golladay Fantasy Football Overview:
The Giants’ passing game was a complete mess last season. This has a lot to do with the fact that they cycled through three quarterbacks, and Daniel Jones was unquestionably the best of the three. Also, he was terrible. He was 26th in air yards per attempt but somehow also 30th in accuracy. His deep ball completion percentage, where he and Golladay should make sweet music? Just 31% completion percentage, 27th among quarterbacks according to PlayerProfiler.com. So, the Giants’ offense wasn’t really built to maximize Golladay’s skills. Mostly because of the quarterback being, well, bad. Golladay wasn’t without bright spots, well, a bright spot. He caught six-of-seven passes for 116 yards in week four. This was the only time he passed 65 receiving yards on the season and his highest total since 158 yards in week thirteen of 2019.
Kenny Golladay turns 29 this year, and it feels like his best days are already way in the rearview mirror. We’ll always have 2019, Kenny.
There’s some hope at upside in 2021, and it comes in the form of Brian Daboll choosing Golladay to be his Stefon Diggs, instead of Kadarius Toney. While I have Toney pegged for the role, he’s just a punched defender away from losing it, and rumors flew that the Giants wanted to move on from him. While Darius Slayton could be an option, the best player in the wide receiver room who isn’t a short fuse is Golladay. So, there’s a path to productivity there, though narrow. It would require reworking Golladay into a possession receiver instead of a “get up and get it’ guy. But, at 6’4” and 213 pounds, he could make it work over the middle.

Unfortunately, I can’t in good conscience tell you to bet on that narrow band where he’s a top-30 receiver, because his good games are so far in the rearview mirror, and the Giants are a crowded mess at receiver. Golladay is WR60, and 144 overall, and $1.1 in salary cap drafts. So sure, if you want to take a shot on him in a deeper league, go for it. He has great upside. Unfortunately, that upside is going to be tough to come by, so in a shallower league, I’d just wait & see, as he’s likely not getting drafted. If he’s getting a ton of targets, no matter the outcome, scoop him up and see what might happen.
Best Case Scenario:
Jones2Golladay becomes the new Allen2Diggs and they make sweet music for Brian Daboll.
Worst Case Scenario:
Jones2Kadarius becomes the new Tua2DeVanteParker and Kenny Golladay plays the role of Preston Williams.
