With turkey day screwing up our fantasy sensibilities, we need to figure out which wide receivers we like. Week twelve has some choices that might not appear obvious at first glance, but which have the opportunity to pay off in a very big way. The question we will all be asking ourselves is if we should start or sit Curtis Samuel, Nelson Agholor, or DeVante Parker?
Start or Sit Curtis Samuel versus Minnesota
The Carolina Panthers are an interesting question for week twelve. With the statuses of Christian McCaffery and Teddy Bridgewater up in the air, it is hard to figure out just how much we can trust them. With Matt Rhule saying he expects Bridgewater will be available week twelve, it is time to fire up your Carolina Panthers wide receiver shares.
The Minnesota Vikings have given up the third-most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. They have also given up the second-most touchdowns to wide receivers. The value for wide receivers playing the Vikings is in determining which guy is most likely to score.
The problem becomes which Carolina Panthers wide receiver do you choose from. Because no matter which guy you start, it feels like the other guy on the Panthers is the one you should have started. Robby Anderson is the team leader in targets and receptions. D.J. Moore leads the Panthers in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.
The reason I’m going with Curtis Samuel is simple. 20 of the 28 touchdowns the Vikings have allowed on defense have been in the red zone. And while D.J. Moore leads the Panthers in receiving touchdowns, Curtis Samuel leads the team in total touchdowns among wide receivers. More importantly, he leads the team in red zone targets among the Panthers’ receivers. This doesn’t even include his value as a rushing threat in the red zone. While he might be the number three receiver on the Panthers, in week twelve I want to start Curtis Samuel.
Start or Sit Nelson Agholor versus Atlanta
Nelson Agholor is one of the most frustrating players in fantasy football. For so long, people believed he was good until they decided he wasn’t. This year, his overall season numbers make him a solid flex options based on match-ups. Agholor has had double-digit points in five of his last seven games. Unfortunately, in those other two games, he provided zero fantasy support.
In week twelve, Nelson Agholor is facing an Atlanta Falcons football team that convinced people Taysom Hill can actually play quarterback. They have given up the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers, the second-most receiving yards, and the eighth-most receptions.
Atlanta is averaging 1 receiving touchdown to receivers per game. Nelson Agholor leads all Raiders receivers in red-zone targets and receiving touchdowns. The Falcons’ weaknesses line up nicely with Agholor’s strength, which is why you should start Nelson Agholor.
Start or Sit DeVante Parter versus N.Y. Jets
There is so much we can dissect with DeVante Parker’s match-up with the Jets. Since Tua Tagovailoa has taken over as the starter, DeVante Parker has led the Dolphins in targets, receptions, yards, and touchdowns. Of course, with Tua reportedly dealing with a hand injury, we could be getting our first Fitzmagic start since before the Dolphins bye week. This is also an okay option because before Ryan Fitzpatrick was benched for the rookie, I pointed out that he was on pace to have the best season of his career.
On the flip side of the coin, DeVante Parker gets to face the New York Jets. If you watch football, don’t be embarrassed if you start salivating uncontrollably. That is a natural reaction when you have a player going against the Jets. They are incredibly bad at football. The Jets have given up the fifth-most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. They have also given up the third-most yards and receptions to opposing wide receivers, categories that DeVante Parker leads the team in. There isn’t much to say here. This is a clear strength going against the weakness that is the New York Jets. You want to start DeVante Parker and not look back.
Who to Prioritize?
We have three very interesting wide receiver options for week twelve, but how do we want to rank them. To me, DeVante Parker is the no-brainer best option of the three. Parker is the clear number one on his tea, which means the least amount of risk is involved with him. After that, Curtis Samuel is my guy. I think Samuel has the highest ceiling of the three, but the presence of Robby Anderson and D.J. Moore does have me worried. Finally, I like Nelson Agholor. My heart wants to rate him higher, but in the end, he is still Nelson Agholor.
