2023 Week 9 Fantasy Football Starts & Sits: Trey McBride, Darrell Henderson, Taysom Hill & More!

Taysom Hill New Orleans Saints

It’s halfway through the season & it feels like it has gone by so quickly. Well, to me at least. Maybe you think it’s gone by slow as hell. You’re absolutely allowed to think that, I’m not gonna say anything. I’m not your parent… but I am your daddy. Your Big Daddy Drix.

QB START OF THE WEEK: Baker Mayfield, TB @ HOU (ECR: 17, my rank: 12)

The former Progressive Insurance pitchman has had an up-and-down season with Tampa Bay, but he played fairly well against the Bills last week and was productive for fantasy. This week Mayfield plays a Texans defense that just let Bryce Young have a solid game. I think Baker is a better player than Bryce at this point in their careers, and he certainly has better weapons at his disposal, so I think Mayfield is a good streamer.

OTHER QB START:
Jordan Love, GB vs. LAR (ECR: 13, my rank: 10)

QB SIT OF THE WEEK: Gardner Minshew, IND @ CAR (ECR: 12, my rank: 14)

Carolina’s pass defense is pretty good! I’ve been harping on this on the Football Absurdity podcast for weeks (listen wherever you get your podcasts). The Panthers have a terrible run defense as well, which plays into the strength of Indy’s offense. Jonathan Taylor and Zack Moss should feast on Sunday, Gardner not so much.

OTHER QB SIT:
Sam Howell, WAS @ NE (ECR: 10, my rank: 13)

RB START OF THE WEEK: Darrell Henderson, LAR @ GB (ECR: 30, my rank: 16)

D Hendo had double-digit points last week in a pretty bad game and it’s like none of you even care. Royce Freeman is the new hotness because he scored a touchdown and did nothing else, for some reason. I’m riding with Henderson again in a game where the Rams will likely utilize the running backs due to Matthew Stafford’s injury and the possibility of Brett Rypien starting at QB for LA.

OTHER RB START:
Brian Robinson, WAS @ NE (ECR: 26, my rank: 24)

RB SIT OF THE WEEK: Royce Freeman, LAR @ GB (ECR: 24, my rank: 32)

As stated above, I believe in Darrell Henderson supremacy.

OTHER RB SIT:
Kareem Hunt, CLE vs. ARI (ECR: 20, my rank: 31)

WR START OF THE WEEK: Jakobi Meyers, LV vs. NYG (ECR: 25, my rank: 20)

The Raiders tell us Aidan O’Connell is their best quarterback. He doesn’t have a high bar to clear. So why should we downgrade Jakobi Meyers because of one bad game? I” ‘m sticking with him.

OTHER WR START:
DJ Moore, CHI @ NO (ECR: 26, my rank: 21)

WR SIT OF THE WEEK: Tee Higgins, CIN vs. BUF (ECR: 21, my rank: 31)

Higgins is simply not a focal point of the offense right now. He has been inconsistent and does not have a good matchup. If you can’t stomach benching him, I understand, but I wouldn’t be playing him in many circumstances.

OTHER WR SIT:
Chris Godwin, TB @ HOU (ECR: 22, my rank: 25)

TE START OF THE WEEK: Taysom Hill, NO vs. CHI (ECR: 13, my rank: 5)

I hate this. Taysom Hill is the most annoying player in the league in my opinion. But he’s had three consecutive TE1 finishes and the matchup against Chicago is juicy. Soak it up while you can.

TE SIT OF THE WEEK: Trey McBride, ARI @ CLE (ECR: 9, my rank: 13)

Cleveland is the single-best defense in the NFL at preventing opposing TEs from scoring fantasy points. It’s as simple as that. Good player, a terrible matchup.
