If you read my article on playing the waiver wire game, you know that it is an essential part of winning your fantasy football league. If you haven’t read it, what are you waiting for? I just told you it’s an essential part of winning your fantasy football league! Why do you hate winning? One of the best ways to maximize your weekly scoring is to stream defenses. This strategy is simple – we aren’t as concerned about good defenses, so much as finding defenses that are playing terrible offenses. Bad offenses are more likely to keep playing bad because if they knew how to be good, they would already be good. Because of this flawless logic, I will be pointing out the best streaming defenses on a weekly basis.
Streaming Defenses Option #1:
Washington WTF Defense (48% rostered) versus Carolina
Even counting the setback they had last week against the Seahawks, over the past four weeks Washington has been a top-three fantasy defense. During that stretch, Washington has 8 sacks, 7 turnovers, and 3 defensive touchdowns. This week, they are playing a Carolina Panthers team that has scored the eleventh fewest points per game in the NFL. They have the eleventh worst third-down conversion rate and the sixth-worst red-zone offense. On the other hand, Washington has the eighth-best third-down defense and the second-best red-zone defense. If Washington is available in your league, they are an ideal fantasy defense in week sixteen.
Streaming Defenses Option #2:
Arizona Cardinals Defense (31% rostered) versus San Francisco
If Washington isn’t available, the Arizona Cardinals are the next best option. The San Francisco 49ers give up the third-most fantasy points to opposing defenses. That number is really quite impressive because a few weeks ago, they were barely top-ten. Unfortunately, everyone on the 49ers roster is now dead… except maybe George Kittle. The Arizona Cardinals are also wrapping up a four-week stretch where they have 18 sacks, 6 turnovers, 1 safety, and a blocked punt. You could do a lot worse than streaming the Arizona Cardinals’ defense.
Streaming Defenses Option #3:
Los Angeles Chargers Defense (28% rostered) versus Denver
The king is dead! Long live the king! After weeks of giving up the most fantasy points to opposing defenses, the New York Jets have been supplanted by the Denver Broncos. So not only do the Broncos give up the most fantasy points to opposing defenses, but they also turn the ball over more than any offense in football. Yeah, the Chargers aren’t really that great, but you know who they are way better than? The Denver Broncos.
