Streaming Defenses for Fantasy Football Week 3 – EVERYONE IS DEAD!!!

Arizona Cardinals Streaming Defenses Chase Edmonds

If you read my article on playing the waiver wire game, you know that it is an essential part of winning your fantasy football league.  If you haven’t read it, what are you waiting for?  I just told you it’s an essential part of winning your fantasy football league!  Why do you hate winning? One of the best ways to maximize your weekly scoring is to stream defenses.  This strategy is simple – we aren’t as concerned about good defenses, so much as finding defenses that are playing terrible offenses.  Bad offenses are more likely to keep playing bad because if they knew how to be good, they would already be good. Because of this flawless logic, I will be pointing out the best options each week for those of us who are streaming defenses.

Streaming Defenses Option #1:  Los Angeles Chargers Defense (31% rostered) @ Carolina

The Chargers are my favorite week three streaming defense.  This matchup is especially exciting because the Chargers have a great running offense compared to the Carolina Panthers atrocious run defense, which means the Panthers will likely have limited scoring opportunities as Los Angeles controls the gameflow.   No Christian McCaffrey certainly doesn’t hurt how I feel, either.  The Chargers already have a decent defense and this week they get to play a Carolina team without their best offensive weapon.  Finally, the best thing to love about this matchup is that the Panthers have given up the seventh-most fantasy points to opposing defenses.

Streaming Defenses Option #2: Denver Broncos Defense (41% rostered) @ Tampa Bay

If you can’t grab either Arizona or Denver in your league, I would target the Denver Broncos against Tampa Bay.  While this might look like a bad move, given how many weapons Tampa Bay has on its roster, this pick has a lot of hidden value.  Tampa Bay has five turnovers in the first two games. Meanwhile, Denver’s defense is a top-ten scoring defense playing a team that has given up the third-most fantasy points to opposing defenses.  While Denver might not be a good football team, but neither is Tampa Bay.

Streaming Defenses Option #3:  Arizona Cardinals Defense (50% rostered) @ Detroit

In their week two loss, the Detroit Lions set an NFL record when they became the first team in NFL history to give up double-digit leads in four consecutive games.  Think about it for a minute.  The Detroit Lions, a franchise storied for their inability to win games, is setting new records for mediocrity.  That is exactly the type of team I want to stream fantasy defenses against.  My rule for this year is to start any defense playing the Lions or the Jets.  I will always bet on bad teams continuing to be bad.  If that isn’t enough to get you onboard, consider that the Arizona Cardinals have been a top-ten fantasy defense, and the Detroit Lions have given up the ninth-most fantasy points to opposing defenses.
