Start or Sit Matthew Stafford, Jacoby Brissett, or Daniel Jones in Week 4?

Should I Start Matthew Stafford, Jacoby Brissett, or Daniel Jones in Week 4?

This year, for start-or-sit advice, I’ve decided to share my wife’s fantasy football “insight” with the world. We will be looking at some sticky fantasy football start or sit decisions each week, and each of us will tell you whether or not you should rock ’em or sock ’em. I will use mostly statistical analysis, with just a touch of gut feeling. Erin will use whatever thing she uses to tell you if the name speaks to her.

Week 3 Recap:
Scoring System: 1 point for good advice, 0 points for neutral advice, -1 point for bad advice (Deciding if the outcome is good, neutral, or bad is 100% subjective and non-negotiable)

Fantasy Points (0.5 PPR) Bryan (Start/Sit, Score) Erin (Start/Sit, Score)
Kerryon Johnson 10.8 Sit, 0 Start, 0
Miles Sanders 11.6 Start, +1 Start, +1
Phillip Lindsay 27 Sit, -1 Sit, -1
Christian Kirk 10.9 Start, 0 Start, 0
Will Fuller 7.6 Sit, +1 Sit, +1
D.K. Metcalf 7.7 Start, -1 Start, -1
Adrian Peterson 3.9 Sit, +1 Start, -1
Malcolm Brown 0.7 Start, -1 Sit, +1
Tarik Cohen 3.4 Sit, +1 Start, -1
Week 3 Total 1 Point -1 Point

As this chart so gut-punchingly illustrates, I barely avoided breaking even, mostly because so many guys on the list were so… blah! Erin, on the other hand, fell a little into the red. There are better days ahead for both of us! Let’s kickoff Week 4 with our first QB debate of the season.

Start or Sit Matthew Stafford vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Bryan’s Take: On the surface, this is a classic “he’s gonna have to throw to keep up with the Chiefs” decision, but will that translate into fantasy points? Let’s ask the Chiefs’ Week 2 opposing QB, Derek Carr. Carr threw for 198 yards, 1 TD, and 2 INTs. Last week, the Chiefs D threw some spike strips on the race track that was the start to Lamar Jackson’s breakout season, holding him to 267 passing yards and 0 passing TDs. What I’m saying is, this should not be an automatic start for Stafford. I’m erring on the side of caution. Sit Matthew Stafford.

Erin’s Take: Matthew Stafford sounds like he would have gone to Yale. I imagine he grew up in a very traditional family setting. His parents were probably very supportive, and I wouldn’t be surprised if his father coached Matthew’s Pop Warner team. Start Matthew Stafford.

Start or Sit Jacoby Brissett vs. Oakland Raiders

Bryan’s Take: Brissett has been a pleasant surprise for the Colts, following Andrew Luck’s retirement and the dozens of ritual sacrifices in the greater Indianapolis area that followed. Brissett is coming off the best game of his career, and is facing a Raiders defense that is giving up over 285 passing yards, and two TDs per game. Start Jacoby Brissett.

Erin’s Take: “Brissett” reminds me of brisket, and it’s making me hungry. I’m not a fan of the name “Jacob,” but I really like “Jacoby.” Putting a “Y” on the end of it just makes it cool. Start Jacoby Brissett.

Start or Sit Daniel Jones vs. Washington

Bryan’s Take: Oh, Daniel Jones, the Giants’ shiny toy. I have to admit, he played great in his first career start, and his arrow is certainly pointing up. On top of that, Jones now takes on a Washington team that just made Mitch Trubisky look like Jay Cutler. No, wait. We can do better. They made Mitch Trubisky look like Kyle Orton. Nope. They made Mitch Trubisky look like Rex Grossman. Ugh… Jay Cutler it is! Start Daniel Jones.

Erin’s Take: Daniel Jones…? It’s very hard for me to get a reading on a player with such a basic basic name. There’s nothing to get excited about. He’s the opposite of the most interesting man in the world. Sit Daniel Jones.

Final Ranks

Bryan: Jacoby Brissett > Daniel Jones > Matthew Stafford

Erin: Jacoby Brissett > Matthew Stafford > Daniel Jones
