If you read my article on playing the waiver wire game, you know that it is an essential part of winning your fantasy football league. If you haven’t read it, what are you waiting for? I just told you it’s an essential part of winning your fantasy football league! Why do you hate winning? One of the best ways to maximize your weekly scoring is to stream defenses. This strategy is simple: stop being concerned with finding good defenses, and find defenses that are playing against terrible offenses. Bad offenses are more likely to keep playing poorly because if they knew how to be good, they would already be good. Following this flawless logic, let’s find out who we should stream in the last week of the season!
New York Giants Defense (23% owned) @ Indianapolis Colts
This is the end. You made it to the finals. Or you play in a terrible league with week eighteen finals, so your fantasy football life is essentially over. If you are gonna get one last stream in, you might as well stream against the best. And by the best, I mean the absolute worst offense you could match any defense against. The Colts are giving up the most fantasy points to opposing defenses, have the most turnovers, give up the second-most sacks, average the second-fewest yards per play, and score the second-fewest points per game. Last week, the Charges had the second-best fantasy defense of week sixteen. Why? Because they played the Colts.
Los Angeles Chargers Defense (34% owned) @ Los Angeles Rams
Last week, I said the only reason the Chargers weren’t my number-one defense was that they were injured and inconsistent all year. Clearly, I underestimated the ineptitude of the Indianapolis Colts. While the Rams are not nearly as bad as the Colts, they aren’t much better. The Rams give up the third-most fantasy points to opposing defenses. The Rams also give up the third-most sacks to opposing defenses and the fifth-most turnovers. The only thing you have to worry about is if the Rams have finally unlocked Baker Mayfield! (They haven’t.)
Jacksonville Jaguars Defense (31% owned) @ Houston Texans
If you can’t get the Giants on your waiver wire, the Jacksonville Jaguars are a solid consolation prize. The Houston Texans give up the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing defenses, the second-most turnovers, and score the third-fewest points per game. This is probably the match-up I feel both the most confident in and the least confident in. Over the last three weeks, the Houston Texans have been competitive against both the Cowboys and the Chiefs, while they actually beat the Titans. Having said that, I just don’t believe that the Texans will display competence four weeks in a row. Especially against a Jacksonville team that is as hot as anyone in football and fighting for the division.
