It’s that time of year once again! Football Absurdity will bring you a breakdown of every notable fantasy football-relevant player throughout June, July, and August. We continue with the tight ends. Today, we take a look at a tight end who does hate crimes in his spare time. I hate Tyler Higbee. Luckily, he isn’t very useful in fantasy football, so I don’t even have to pretend to be conflicted about him being a reprehensible human being. Here’s his 2022 fantasy football player profile.

2022 Tyler Higbee Overview:
To be completely honest with you, I don’t know what people see with Tyler Higbee other than him getting a Davante Adams-level target load for five games at the end of 2019. In those games, he averaged 11 targets, 8 catches, and 104 yards per game, while scoring twice in five games. So, people see that as his upside. We are now two complete seasons from that time, and he has zero games of at least 70 yards since that time and just three over 60 yards. He’s been legitimately terrible for fantasy football, yet people still say his name as an upside player. I just don’t get it.
Outside of doing hate crimes, Tyler Higbee’s favorite activity is running a ton of fruitless routes and getting some of the most hollow 60-catch, 550-yard, 5 touchdown seasons you’ll ever see. Yet, people still cling to that hot streak at the end of 2019. In the 26 games before then (going back to the beginning of 2018), he averaged 2 catches for 20 yards per game. In the two seasons since that hot streak, he’s kicked it up a notch, averaging 3.5 catches for 36 yards per game.
Here’s another way to put how much of an aberration that five-game stretch people point to when discussing Tyler Higbee: inside that hot stretch, he had four 100-yard games. Outside that stretch, he has as many hate crimes (1) as games over 70 yards. He hasn’t been good, he just was good, for a while, because he got a ton of targets. That’s not going to happen again, so you should stop acting as it will.

I mean, just don’t do it. There’s no reason to do it. He’s the most mid possible tight end in the universe, and he’s a terrible person on top of that. He had eight games inside the top twelve at the position, and seven games outside the top 12. There isn’t really any upside there, especially considering that the pass-catching is going to be done by Cooper Kupp and Allen Robinson. He’s in a potent enough offense that he will likely finish between 13 and 15 in most tight end categories, but that’s it.
Best Case Scenario:
Tyler Higbee falls off the face of the earth (we have different definitions of best case scenario)
Worst Case Scenario:
Tyler Higbee once again finishes around TE14 in 2022, 2023, and 2024. In 2025, people still point to his five-game stretch in 2019 as his “realistic upside.”
