2022 Jarvis Landry Fantasy Football Overview:
The main value that Jarvis Landry afforded fantasy football managers throughout his career has been through his high level of PPR production, especially compared to his overall production. This came from a massive volume of short-area targets in the first six years of his career, where he averaged 9 targets per game. Things got a little wonky with Cleveland in the last couple of seasons, where Landry averaged just seven targets per game. This is why he finished in the WR40s in PPR in each of the last two years (on 188 targets in 27 games), after finishing as WR22 in his first year with Cleveland, on 138 targets in sixteen games.
Landry has always been a “turn around and get it” guy, going back to his days in Miami. Prior to coming to the Browns, he topped 7 yards per target just once, which shows you that he isn’t exactly a downfield threat, more of a safety blanket chain mover.
But, do the Saints really need a safety blanket chain mover? Isn’t that Alvin Kamara? Oh, he might be suspended. What about Michael Thomas? Oh, his foot might have fallen off and he hasn’t told anyone yet. It really feels like Jarvis Landry will once again be a safety blanket, but not for fantasy football. Instead, he will be a short area safety blanket for a team that has a ton of question marks surrounding its current (super talented) short-area targets. So, I think Jarvis Landry will have some value this season, but how much value depends entirely on the fortunes of both Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas. This will benefit him, as it is a likely return to his Miami usage, where he was far closer to the line of scrimmage, making him a PPR machine. And after all, points are points, and in PPR, 7 catches for 50 yards is the same as 2 catches for 100 yards, but one is a lot easier to get.
2022 Jarvis Landry Fantasy Football Draft Strategy:
Jarvis Landry Salary Cap Value: $0
Draft Ranking: Find out for your league settings in a Beersheet!
Jarvis Landry is dirt cheap right now, going as WR57 off the board, and pick 133 overall. He’s also just $1.2 in salary cap drafts. I will lean into that value and take Jarvis Landry as a roster glue guy, who has the chance to finish as a weekly top-36 wide receiver as long as one or both of Kamara and Thomas are handling their issues. The Saints have their downfield threats ready to go with Chris Olave and Deonte Harty. Should they need someone to fill in for Michael Thomas slants and Alvin Kamara in the slot, then Jarvis Landry is their guy, and he should PPR himself into 15 or so points per game when in that role. He’s no risk, all reward at his price. But, chances are you run out of roster spots before getting to Jarvis Landry in most leagues.
Best Case Scenario:
Alvin Kamara misses the year, Michael Thomas goes back to his home planet, and Jarvis Landry gets 150 targets.
Worst Case Scenario:
Alvin Kamara misses no time, Michael Thomas goes back to being Michael Thomas, and Jarvis Landry gets 50 targets.
