Start or Sit Odell Beckham Jr., Tyler Boyd, or Curtis Samuel in Week 16?

Should I Start or Sit Odell Beckham Jr., Tyler Boyd, or Curtis Samuel in Week 16?

As you know, my wife and I are going head to head this year to see who is better at predicting the unpredictable, and telling you who you should start or sit. I am using mostly statistical analysis with a touch of a gut feeling. Erin is using whatever thing she uses to tell you how each player’s name speaks to her. We covered quarterbacks yesterday, and now we’ll be breaking down some Week 16 wide receivers.

Week 16 Start or Sit Picks

Start or Sit Odell Beckham Jr. vs. Baltimore Ravens Week 16

Bryan’s Take: This has not been the season we expected from OBJ, or the Browns offensive unit as a whole. From Baker Mayfield on down, the passing game has been mediocre at best, and atrocious at worst. The Ravens are heavily favored in this one, as they have been in most games this year, but that doesn’t automatically translate into big passing days for their opponents. It’s quite the opposite, actually. The Ravens have only allowed 13 passing TDs on the year, good for second-fewest in the NFL. That plus Odell’s pesky groin injury has me looking elsewhere. Sit Odell Beckham Jr. in Week 16.

Erin’s Take: He has kind of an old fashioned sounding name. I usually like those kinds of names, but I’m not really feeling Odell. However, I know he’s a popular player, and I know he doesn’t get in much trouble. That makes me respect him. Start Odell Beckham Jr. in Week 16.

Start or Sit Tyler Boyd at Miami Dolphins Week 16

Bryan’s Take:  Boyd’s season has been a mix of some high highs and low lows. He’s been good, but incredibly inconsistent. That said, you can’t ask for a better matchup than this. Well, technically, you could, but that’s just greedy. The Dolphins have given up the second-most passing TDs in the league. In the three games since Dalton’s return to QB1 status, he has targeted Boyd 23 times. Another game without A.J. Green should lead to more of the same. Start Tyler Boyd in Week 16.

Erin’s Take: I don’t like the name “Tyler Boyd” at all. “Tyler” is the name of some hot, flash in the pan, teen celebrity who was all over Tiger Beat magazine when they were younger, but then turned into a typical “former child star” when they grew up. Sit Tyler Boyd in Week 16.

Start or Sit Curtis Samuel at Indianapolis Colts Week 16

Bryan’s Take: Samuel has 2 TDs in his last three games, but he also has only eclipsed 70 receiving yards ONCE all season. That is the epitome of touchdown dependency. Now, the Colts have given up their fair share of passing touchdowns (26), but I don’t know that I’d trust Samuel as a touchdown-or-bust option in my league championship. Sit Curtis Samuel in Week 16.

Erin’s Take: Now this is an old fashioned name I can get behind! It makes me think of a sweet, old man who carries strawberry hard candies in his pockets. No, it’s not creepy at all, jerks! Start Curtis Samuel in Week 16.

Final Ranks
Bryan: Tyler Boyd > Odell Beckham Jr. > Curtis Samuel
Erin:  Curtis Samuel > Odell Beckham Jr. > Tyler Boyd
