Should I Start or Sit Ryan Tannehill, Kyler Murray, or Derek Carr in Week 14?
As you know, my wife and I are going head to head this year to see who is better at predicting the unpredictable, and telling you who you should start or sit. I am using mostly statistical analysis with a touch of gut feeling. Erin is using whatever thing she uses to tell you how each player’s name speaks to her. Week 13 was the unluckiest of weeks for me. I made one good call. ONE! What an embarrassment in what was the most important week of the season for many fantasy owners. Hopefully, you followed Erin’s advice and not mine last week. In most leagues, Week 14 is the first week of the fantasy playoffs. I tried a different research approach last week, and, clearly, it failed miserably. This week, I’m going back to my old ways. I have no where to go, but up.

Week 14 Start or Sit Picks
Start or Sit Ryan Tannehill vs. Oakland Raiders Week 14
Bryan’s Take: I know I’m not alone when I say, “will the real Ryan Tannehill please stand up?” What happened to the Ryan Tannehill we watched flounder in Miami year after year? I’m afraid he’s still in there, lurking in the shadows, waiting to burn you for putting your team’s playoff life in his hands. Just not this week. The Raiders are giving up almost 260 passing yards per game, and have given up 27 passing TDs on the year. That ties them for third-worst in the NFL. There’s no reason to think the improbable Tannehill slows down this week. Start Ryan Tannehill in Week 14.
Erin’s Take: Hmm… I don’t like the “Ryan” part at all, even though it’s one letter away from my husband’s name. The “Tannehill” part, however, more than makes up for it. The whole name rolls off the tongue, nice and smooth. Start Ryan Tannehill in Week 14.
Start or Sit Kyler Murray vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Week 14
Bryan’s Take: Murray had a good thing going in his three November starts, throwing seven TDs and only one INT. Two of those starts were against a top-notch 49ers D, and were INT free! Then, December 1st came around, and Murray crapped out against the Rams. The Steelers are decent against the pass but have allowed 19 passing TDs on the year. Plus, Kyler can always get those running points that are like fantasy QB gold. Let’s face it, he’s no Ryan Tannehill (eyeroll), but he won’t let you down this week either. Start Kyler Murray in Week 14.
Erin’s Take: I know we’ve done this one before, but it’s been a long time. I’m sure I said I liked him because “Kyler” is such a unique name. It’s unique, but not too far out there. You know, like when kids are named “Apple” or Jet.” They’re trying too hard. Just sticking an “R” on the end of an awful name makes a huge change for the better. Start Kyler Murray in Week 14.
Start or Sit Derek Carr vs. Tennessee Titans Week 14
Bryan’s Take: Carr hasn’t thrown more than one TD in a game since Week 9. And in those four games since, he’s thrown three TDs and four INTs. This included games versus the Bengals and Jets. Just sayin’. The Titans aren’t great on offense, but they have wrangled 11 INTs, good for 7th best in the NFL. All told, this does not have the makings of a Derek Carr fantasy spot start. Sit Derek Carr in Week 14.
Erin’s Take: Here’s another easy, “rolls off the tongue” name. I guess I like Derek Carr too! Why is it that “car” by default is an automobile, but “carr” is always a name? There we go adding “R” to the ends of names again… Start Derek Carr in Week 14.
Final Ranks
Bryan: Kyler Murray > Derek Carr > Ryan Tannehill
Erin: Ryan Tannehill > Kyler Murray > Derek Carr
