2023 Fantasy Football Week 17 Streaming Defenses: Grit Your Teeth and Bear It

If you read my article on playing the waiver wire game, you know that it is an essential part of winning your fantasy football league.  If you haven’t read it, what are you waiting for?  I just told you it’s an essential part of winning your fantasy football league!  Why do you hate winning?

One of the best ways to maximize your weekly scoring is to stream defenses.  This strategy is simple – we aren’t as concerned about good defenses, so much as finding defenses that are playing terrible offenses.  Bad offenses are more likely to keep playing badly because if they knew how to be good, they would already be good.  Because of this flawless logic, I will be pointing out the best streaming options every week.

Los Angeles Rams DEF (33% owned) @ New York Giants

While I really want to put the Bears ahead of the Rams here, I just can’t. The Giants are that bad at football and the Rams are one of the hottest teams. The Giants have scored the 2nd fewest points per game and give up the most sacks. It is no surprise they are giving up the 2nd most fantasy points to opposing defenses.

Chicago Bears DEF (23% owned) @ Atlanta Falcons

A lesser man would look at being wrong on the Bears and say maybe they shouldn’t be your streaming option for the championship round after their previous performance. To that, I say that there is a big difference between facing Kyler Murray and Taylor Heinicke. While Murray didn’t turn the ball over last week, Heinicke can’t wait to throw the ball into the waiting arms of defenders. He’s not Desmond Ridder bad, but he isn’t far off.

Jacksonville Jaguars DEF (40% owned) @ Carolina Panthers

The truth is all of the defenses I am recommending are solid playoff matchups. The Carolina Panthers are giving up the 5th most fantasy points to opposing defenses. The reason the Jaguars are ranked third is over the last month, they have been giving up a lot of big plays in the passing game and Bryce Young has looked better. Even still, Young hasn’t looked so good that I wouldn’t stream a defense against this team.
