2023 Kirk Cousins Fantasy Football Player Profile

NFL: Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings start or sit quarterback sleepers

It’s that time of year once again! Football Absurdity will bring you a breakdown of every notable fantasy football-relevant player throughout July and August. Kirk Cousins was QB7 last year. He’s been a top 12 QB for the last three years. Yet people keep wandering into our Discord and asking things like “should I draft Jared Goff over Kirk Cousins?” Let’s take a look at 2023 Kirk Cousins to find out why that exact question always gets a unanimous response. Also, how come they never made a sequel to Footloose?

Kirk Cousins ADP and AAV:

A lot happened with the Minnesota Vikings in this year’s draft. They took top WR prospect Jordan Addison. That’s the only thing they did, offensively, really, but it’s still A LOT. That means Kirk Cousins has yet another set piece to read alongside all-world Justin Jefferson. The TJ Hockenson Comeback Tour may continue, too. All in all, Cousins makes a nice safe play as your second QB in two-QB leagues or even in one-QB leagues if you’re one of those people who likes to wait forever at the position.

Footloose made like $70 million at the box office, and that’s in 1984 dollars. So why did they never make a sequel? Maybe they gave up when they couldn’t agree on a title. Sure, Footloose 2 is a possibility, but why not Footlooser or Feetloose?

2022 Kirk Cousins Fantasy Football Draft Strategy:

Kirk Cousins Salary Cap Value: $4 (10-Teams), $4 (12-teams)
Draft Ranking: QB10, 85th overall

Kirk Cousins is almost the only QB I have in my B-tier, except Tua Tagovailoa is next to him. I have Cousins higher than Tua, however: Cousins has shown he can consistently put up QB1 stats. Obviously, however, Tua has a much higher ceiling potential thanks to rushing yards and a possible year-three skill jump. It all depends on how much risk you like at the position.

Quarterbacks who are not in this tier for me include Goff, Daniel Jones, Aaron Rodgers, and Geno Smith, all of whom I’ve seen ranked above Cousins somewhere or another. For me, that’s getting too cute with it. If you want to get cute with it, go Tua. But don’t go with career washups like Goff or Jones or Geno coming off of one weird year. Aaron Rodgers could ball out with Garrett Wilson, but it’s more likely that he just plays it safe like Peyton Manning did the year he won the Super Bowl with Denver. If you find yourself talking your… um… self into grabbing someone from the field over Kirk Cousins, I think you’re really getting too cute with it.

Plus the Vikings drafted a first-round wide receiver! Don’t you want in on that potential at QB? I do (if I don’t get any of the nine guys I have ranked higher). Cousins was seventh last year in total QB fantasy points, seh-veh-nth-uhh. If Addison makes Cousins score just 0.6 points per game more we are talking about top 5.

I’ve just been informed by my editorial staff that Footloose is “off-topic” for a 2023 Kirk Cousins fantasy football player profile. How? We’re talking about “foot-ball” and “Foot-loose” is practically the exact same word. It’s ridiculous. You want more relevancy, I’ll give you more relevancy!

Best Case Scenario:

Minnesota’s offense becomes an unstoppable monster that outlaws dancing in the end zone. Kirk Cousins leads a spirited rebellion against the rule while throwing his second straight 4,500-yard season. After breaking his personal record with his 36th touchdown pass, he and Justin Jefferson drive to a grain silo in a neighboring town and dance the night away.

Worst Case Scenario:

Kirk Cousins turns 35 in August and realizes that not only has he lost the ability to throw, he has lost the ability to dance! He still turns in a top-12 finish based on how potent that offense is, alone, but TJ Hockenson punches him in the locker room in a fight over a woman. Somehow this causes all remaining Vikings’ games to have a runtime of exactly 110 minutes.
