Luke Schoonmaker 2023 Draft Prospect Fantasy Football Breakdown

Luke Schoonmaker, Michigan (6’6”, 250)

Games Watched:

Michigan State (2022), Maryland (2022), Indiana (2022)

What Scouts Say:

Good run-blocking TE. Can use the seams well. Got that dawg in him, as well. He is weak after the catch and not great at winning in contested catch situations.

What We Saw:
Tony:

Luke Schoonmaker has more juice as a receiver and less juice as a blocker than I assumed he would, call it an anti-big ten bias. He’s actually pretty strong at getting off the line quickly, much better than when he is asked to play out in the slot. He doesn’t look like someone who will dominate at the next level, but someone who could provide a strong depth option as a late-round pick.

Shane:

I think I officially entered the realm of “spending too much time in the forest where you start to not see the trees” of TE scouting because Schoomaker looked like every other blob TE2 on a team to me. Very eager to block and he attempts to out-muscle the defenders so I appreciate the DAWG, which did contribute to the beating drums of Blake Corum this year. Decent route tree with the ability to get the ball by extending himself past his frame. Nothing that stood out athletically or game-breaking in the receiving game, but that can also be a situation in Michigan. A Blob guy in my opinion, but get your bag, young man.

Player Comparison:

Hayden Hurst
