Should I Start Todd Gurley, Leonard Fournette, or David Montgomery in Week 4?
This year, for start-or-sit advice, I’ve decided to share my wife’s fantasy football “insight” with the world. We will be looking at some sticky fantasy football start or sit decisions each week, and each of us will tell you whether or not you should rock ’em or sock ’em. I will use mostly statistical analysis, with just a touch of gut feeling. Erin will use whatever thing she uses to tell you if the name speaks to her.
You can find a recap of our Week 3 picks, here.
Start or Sit Todd Gurley vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Bryan’s Take: Thinking about Todd Gurley gets me all weak in the knees. I’m an empath. It looks like the Rams are trying to keep Gurley at around 15 touches per game, and it’s working just fine for them. For fantasy, it can be a bit of a rollercoaster. Take last week, for example: 43 rushing yards and… that’s it, 43 rushing yards. Gurley is still a great talent on a great offense, BUT the Buccaneers are actually pretty good defensively, only allowing 3.0 yards per attempt to opposing running backs. That’s 3rd best in the league! The Rams will beat the Bucs through the air, and Gurley hasn’t been involved in that aspect of the offense all season. Sit Todd Gurley.
Erin’s Take: Oh, he must be a really big guy. When I hear the name “Todd Gurley,” I think of Ogre from Revenge of the Nerds. Ogre was obviously good at football. Start Todd Gurley.
Start or Sit Leonard Fournette at Denver Broncos
Bryan’s Take: Good, not great. That’s what we’ve gotten from Fournette all year. He’s running. He’s catching. He’s behaving. He’s been good! He just hasn’t found paydirt yet. Leonard Fournette, meet the Denver Broncos. They’ve allowed five rushing TDs this year. I think you’ll find their endzone quite accommodating. Start Leonard Fournette.
Erin’s Take: I don’t have a good feeling about Leonard Fournette. Nothing to do with his name, specifically. I am not getting any good vibes from him at all. Just… yuck. Sit Leonard Fournette.
Start or Sit David Montgomery vs. Minnesota Vikings
Bryan’s Take: Montgomery has a tough task this week. Only the Packers have had any rushing success against the Vikings this year, and that was in Green Bay. Did that matter? Who knows? Probably. Montgomery has put up respectable numbers the last couple weeks, but I can’t trust him on the road, in Minnesota. Sit David Montgomery.
Erin’s Take: David Montgomery sounds pretty pretentious. I don’t think he’ll have a good game because he’ll be too busy reading his encyclopedias. Sit David Montgomery.
Final Ranks
Bryan: Leonard Fournette > Todd Gurley > David Montgomery
Erin: Todd Gurley > Leonard Fournette > David Montgomery
