Start or Sit Geronimo Allison
In this article we answer the question: should you start or sit Geronimo Allison in week two as the Green Bay Packers host the Minnesota Vikings?
The first week of the NFL fantasy football season is in the books, and at this point, you’re either on pace to go undefeated, or more likely, you’re an endless pit of death and despair, wondering why you wasted your time even thinking about fantasy football. After all, Joan from Accounting auto-drafted Tyreek Hill, Alvin Kamara, Patrick Mahomes, and Jared Cook and smashed the thoroughly-researched players you took after countless hours of research during a long offseason. A wasted summer spent on nightly mock drafts instead of tending to your relationships with your loved ones. Whether you won or lost, it’s time to move on from week one and set your lineups for week two. Here at Football Absurdity, we try to help you out with your weekly lineup questions.
Geronimo Allison had his big breakout game that many fantasy prognosticators, including one particularly handsome and astute one, thought he would. Hold on one second, let me just get my own horn here, so that I can toot it. Alright, now that that’s out of the way, let’s look at Allison’s breakout game last week, shall we? He had eight targets for a nice 69 yards and a score. He had no targets before Aaron Rodgers went down from injury, three from Deshone Kizer, and five from Rodgers once he returned. The eight targets led the Packers, and only Davante Adams and Randall Cobb had more targets once Rodgers returned from his knee injury.
So, what’s the problem with deciding to start or sit Geronimo Allison? The opposing defense, that’s the problem. The Vikings showed last week that they can get after the quarterback, destroying his offensive line in the process. The Vikings are a little banged up in their cornerback corps, but Harrison Smith and Anderson Sendejo will ensure that nobody runs free on that secondary. Excepting the result of the Jimmy Garoppolo Magic touchdown to Dante Pettis, no 49ers wideout had more than 28 yards on the day. That’s a clamp-down defense on wideouts.
While Geronimo Allison is set to have a huge season, I think that his big start will hit a speed bump on Sunday. None of the analysis above didn’t even get into the fact that it might be Deshone Kizer starting on Sunday. I operated under the assumption that Rodgers plays, but we can’t rule out the very possible reality where Rodgers goes down and stays outs permanently. He had a great first game, but the matchup and the potential downside is too much to ignore. You drafted him as a WR 5 or 6, so you should have much better options. The answer to the question of whether you should start or sit Geronimo Allison is: Sit.
