With my player profiles, I’ve only decided to go back to look at their fantasy scoring for three years.  I could show you lists from earlier, but most of the guys at the top are no longer in the league anymore.  I’ve also added a chart for their usage over that time span.  We will try to determine, based on those two factors, where the best running back value lies.

Overview: Todd Gurley is my greatest shame.  Last season, I thought he was a great comeback player candidate.  But I doubted.  People pointed to nebulous stats like his yards after contact and my faith waned.  All I really needed to do was look at the ignominious exit of Jeff Fisher to know that the path was clear for the one true king of fantasy football to emerge.  Todd Gurley was a one-man fantasy wrecking crew last season.  If you had him on your team, you were able to punish unbelievers such as myself.

Strategy: Unlike last year, I am trusting my instincts in regards to Todd Gurley.  Of course, this year, my instincts tell me that Todd Gurley is due to regress.  I’m not saying he isn’t an RB1, because he is.  I just don’t think he’ll be the number one this year.  I think he will probably fall outside of the top five, but he’ll still be well worth his draft position.

Ceiling:  Obviously, his ceiling is RB1.  I gazed up at Todd Gurley.  Two fantasy season it had taken me to learn what kind of production was hidden beneath the dark dreadlocks.  O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast!  Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of my nose.  But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. I had won the victory over myself.  I loved Todd Gurley.

Floor:  What will actually happen is some terrible accident will befall Sean McVay before the season starts.  Desperate for a coach to salvage the season, the Rams decide to bring back Jeff Fisher.  Choas ensues (as does an 8-8 record, so Fisher actually feels proud of himself). If you are wondering if I lifted this straight from my worst-case scenario for Jared Goff, I did.  Because there is no scenario worse than Jeff Fisher.
