With my player profiles, I’ve only decided to go back to look at their fantasy scoring for three years. I could show you lists from earlier, but most of the guys at the top are no longer in the league anymore. I’ve also added a chart for their usage over that time span. We will try to determine, based on those two factors, where the best running back value lies.

Overview: Marlon Mack is an interesting running back to evaluate for the 2018 fantasy football season. His production in 2017 was nothing to write home about, but I’m not sure there is a running back in a better situation in 2018. Right now, his only real competition on the roster is Nyheim Hines, a 4th round rookie. While Hines is talented, I think the Colts will give Mack the first opportunity to win the starting job. Both Mack and Hines were drafted in the fourth round, by the same GM, so I don’t think the team is more invested in one over the other.
Strategy: I think Marlon Mack is a great value at his current ADP. Last year, Frank Gore had 290 touches as the starter in that offense. Those looks have to go somewhere. If Mack wins the starting job and can get the majority of those looks, he could have a very productive fantasy season. Getting a potential starter in the 7th or 8th round is something I will always take a flier on.
Ceiling: If Mack wins the starting job and is just mediocre, he could still put up RB2 numbers just through sheer volume. If he wins the job and is good, he could end the year as an RB1
Floor: What will actually happen is the Indianapolis Colts will go with the younger, better, more attractive Nyheim Hines as the starter and Marlon Mack will just be a rotational guy who occasionally has a good fantasy week, but an overall mediocre fantasy football season.
