Fourteen weeks of the fantasy football season are in the books. It feels like just yesterday that we were all panicking about David Montgomery getting too many rushing attempts compared to Jahmyr Gibbs, and singing Hunter Henry’s praises. Well, it’s time for the playoffs, and that means it’s time for some roster bloodletting. Below I have some options at each position rostered in over 50% of leagues that are worthy of excommunication from your rosters. Please enjoy, and enjoy the playoffs!
Quarterbacks
Justin Herbert, L.A. Chargers (99% rostered)
My sources (Rotoworld) say there’s a season-ending IR stint, for surgery from a broken finger on his throwing hand, being considered for Justin Herbert. I am pro-Herbie and take no pleasure in reporting this.
C.J. Stroud, Houston (93% rostered)
Stroud left Sunday’s game with a nasty concussion, which (unless he’s Brock Purdy) is a ticket to missing the next week’s game against the Titans (who just locked up Tua Tagovailoa and who have allowed one 20 point quarterback since week three), the Browns (the second-best QB defense) and the Titans again in the fantasy playoffs. Even if he does make it all the way back, Tank Dell went on IR and Nico Collins aggravated his calf injury, putting his remaining few weeks in doubt. It’s been a fun ride but it’s time to hop off if you have a good alternative.
Josh Dobbs, Minnesota (51% rostered)
The Passtronaut has been grounded for Nick Mullens. How the mighty have fallen.
Wide Receivers
George Pickens, Pittsburgh (81% rostered)
Pickens finished Thursday with 5 catches for 19 yards, on 6 targets. This marks the sixth time in the last seven games that Pickens failed to register double-digit PPR fantasy points, and he has one good matchup (Seattle) on the docket for the rest of the fantasy season. His “good” game last week was WR30, and he’s facing having Mitchell Trubisky or Mason Rudolph for the balance of the season.
Christian Kirk, Jacksonville (69% rostered)
Kirk underwent core muscle surgery and the Jaguars placed him on IR.
Jerry Jeudy, Denver (56% rostered)
Jeudy caught two-of-six targets for 16 yards on Sunday, continuing is 0-for-the-season stretch of failing to get even 90 receiving yards. Sutton is the touchdown guy, and Jeudy is a low upside deep league depth receiver at this point.
Running Backs
Alexander Mattison, Minnesota (91% rostered)
Mattison left the game Sunday with what will likely be a multi-week injury (a sprained ankle). He also has single-digit fantasy points in six of his last seven games. Even if he makes it back to the field this season, the Vikings are quickly circling the drain.
Khalil Herbert, Chicago (57% rostered)
Herbert, Roschon Johnson and D’Onta Foreman all steal from each other so much that I don’t feel comfortable having any of them on my roster unless one of them gets hurt. Luckily, only Herbert is above that 50% roster rate.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire (50% rostered)
CEH had 13 touches and 8.8 fantasy points. With Isiah Pacheco due back soon he’s Clyde Edwards-Irrelevant starting soon.
Tight Ends
There was no tight end who had a truly dreadful week 15! Congrats!
