As A Prospect:

Well, I gotta tell you I was high on Wydermyer before his pro day, where he ran a 5.02 40 yard dash (which is less than a second faster than Rich Eisen’s best time). His tape told me that he was a solid receiving option that doesn’t have much business as an in-line blocker or in pass protection. Those types of players can work in the NFL, I’m thinking about the first couple of years of Greg Olsen’s career. However, with his terrible workout numbers, I’m concerned that he’s never going to get the chance.

Fantasy Football Potential:

The odds are very slim that you’ll have Wydermyer on your fantasy redraft team in 2021. If he gets decent capital in April (which I doubt he will), he could be a good deep stash in dynasty, but it seems like that gets further and further away from being a real possibility as we get closer to the draft. If he gets picked, I think I would at best take him at the very end of the last round, but there are most likely better options there. Honestly, I’m only intrigued by him as a very very cheap flyer.

Overall:

Wydermyer was super fun to watch with the ball in his hands, though he was never a big-play threat (his career-long was 52, and that was in 2019). His utility came on 3rd down and in the red zone, and when he was schemed the ball he looked pretty nifty. Then, he tested slow and it seems like he might not get the chance to do much at the next level, which is a bummer. He had some of the better game tape I saw this season and I hope he gets a chance to be a red zone guy somewhere as a UDFA or late day 3 pick.
