The 2020 NFL Draft is in the books, and that means it’s time for us to fully turn our attention to the 2020 NFL season and fantasy football. While COVID-19 means we can’t guarantee an NFL season, our league mates want us to be on our heels, unprepared for the season. Never you fear, Football Absurdity is here to cover all of the 78 fantasy football eligible players drafted in the 2020 NFL Draft. Keep in mind, most of these guys won’t get selected in your draft, but you’ll want to know these 2020 NFL draftees when your fantasy football draft comes around. We’ve already taken a look at the Cowboys’ and Eagles’ fantasy football eligible rookies, and since the Giants didn’t pick any fantasy football guys, let’s finish off our tour of the NFC East with Washington.

Washington took just two players who have fantasy football eligibility in this draft. Both are wide receivers named Antonio. Maybe, they’ve found their Antonio (Brown)? Probably not, but are these guys worth worrying about for 2020 fantasy football?

WR4       Antonio Gibson                                 RB4        Bryce Love
WR5       Antonio Gandy-Golden                   RB5        Peyton Barber
WR6       Trey Quinn

The truth of the matter is that Antonio Gibson is an offensive weapon. He’s listed at WR on some depth charts, and RB in others. On Twitter, the NFL announced him as a RB, but he played WR at Memphis. He’s all over the place and is likely to carry a WR/RB designation on your fantasy football platform of choice.

TALENT

Antonio Gibson is a unique case. Usually, players are listed as offensive weapons when they aren’t very good at any particular position. Think Dexter McCluster or Tavon Austin. With Antonio Gibson, he is good at a lot of different things. Still, he isn’t great at everything. For example, his running style redefines impatience, and his routes tend to drift. Still, he’s a home run hitter with the ball in his hands. He’s fast and laughs at would-be tacklers as they bounce off of him. Last year, he had a 50+ yard return touchdown, a 50+ yard receiving touchdown, and 50+ yard rushing touchdown… All in the same game. Gibson becomes a true chess piece for Washington, and his usage will determine his fantasy football viability.

2020 OPPORTUNITY

Washington officially lists Gibson as a running back on their depth chart. The thinking is that his mere presence in a two-back set will put the opposing defense in a pinch, deciding if they will get big to stop the run or get small to stop his route. Once the decision is made, Washington can just audible into the opposite. This works a lot better on paper than it does on the field. Still, his skillset intrigues me. I like him, he’s fun, he’s dynamic. And truth be told, my opinion on his usage opportunity changes from day-to-day. Some days, I don’t think he will get the touches, other days, I picture a mini-CMC out there. It’s all over the map, and he’s getting three Burrows to hedge my bet.

Here’s the rub, though: I don’t know if gets enough touches as a hybrid running back/wide receiver/gadget player to matter in fantasy football.

2020 FANTASY FOOTBALL OUTLOOK

He’s definitely worth a flier in case we have some serious insane machinations on our hands in Washington. He will cost almost nothing, and especially in PPR leagues, he has a shot to play all over the formation. If he has dual eligibility on your platform of choice, even better. I like Gibson as a late dart throw… just to see what happens.

TALENT

Gandy-Golden is a massive mountain of a man whose 4.6 second 40-yard dash turned some heads. Unfortunately, he takes some time getting up to speed, but his dash time and tape show that he has some good top-end speed for his size. His calling cards are his incredible catch radius and 50/50 ball mentality and the difficulty bringing him down once he’s going with the football. Unfortunately, he needs a head of steam and a long runway to activate his potential there, so he’s not great around the line of scrimmage or in a condensed field situation. He has some ability to release from press coverage at the line of scrimmage, though it was inconsistent. He displays a lot of traits that could have him develop into a fantasy football monster down the line. Right now, however, cornerbacks eat him up at the line of scrimmage.

2020 OPPORTUNITY

I think Gandy-Golden ends up on the practice squad or as Washington’s fifth receiver in his rookie year. With Dwayne Haskins likely at the helm, I’m not excited about his target volume. AGG is extremely talented but very raw, and likely will be limited to being a rotational red zone and jump ball weapon for Washington in his rookie year.

2020 FANTASY FOOTBALL OUTLOOK

He could flash from time-to-time, but unless he puts together some sustained production, he’s not even on my radar. Washington isn’t the situation where you find the raw middle-to-late round diamond in the rough at wide receiver in his rookie year.
