Start or Sit David Montgomery, Mark Walton, or Devin Singletary in Week 9?

Should I Start David Montgomery, Mark Walton, or Devin Singletary in Week 9?

This year, for start-or-sit advice, I’ve decided to share my wife’s fantasy football “insight” with the world. We will be looking at some sticky fantasy football start or sit decisions each week, and each of us will tell you whether or not you should rock ’em or sock ’em. I will use mostly statistical analysis, with just a touch of gut feeling. Erin will use whatever thing she uses to tell you how each player’s name speaks to her.

Start or Sit David Montgomery at Philadelphia Eagles Week 9

Bryan’s Take: Montgomery had far and away his best game of his short career in week 8, nearly reaching 150 total yards and scoring his third TD. The Bears really committed to the run in this one, handing it to Montgomery 27 times, eclipsing his previous high of 21 from way back in week 4. While this was a nice breakout for Monty, game script had a lot to do with it. The Bears held a narrow lead for most of the game, and were doing everything they could to sustain it. Plus, this was the fourth time on the season that the Chargers defense has allowed over 120 rushing yards. The Eagles, on the other hand, are not so generous. They’ve only allowed 100+ rushing yards to two teams this season: the Vikings (the #1 rushing team) and the Cowboys (the #7 rushing team). It may be wise to not chase this dragon. Sit David Montgomery week 9, and use a better option if you have one.

Erin’s Take: I’m kind of partial to the name “David.” It’s my son’s middle name, and my father’s first name. I’m also partial to Chicago since my father used to live there. David Montgomery has a very mature name for such a young player. He sounds like a kid who always made his parents proud by bringing home a great report card. Start David Montgomery week 9.

Start or Sit Mark Walton vs. New York Jets Week 9

Bryan’s Take: The Dolphins have looked different (better?) the last couple weeks with Fitzpatrick and Walton starting. That said, they’re still a bit of a smoldering dumpster, and Walton couldn’t have been any worse than whatever combination of Kenyan Drake/ Kalen Ballage was trotted out previously. The good news for Walton is he owns that backfield. Drake is gone, and Ballage’s face was just put on a milk carton. This is a battle for last place in the AFC East, and I think the Dolphins have a chance to pull one out here. So, I’m saying you can Start Mark Walton week 9 because… why not?

Erin’s Take: “Mark Walton” is so close to being “Mark Wahlberg” that I think it just makes sense to call him Marky Mark going forward. Now, I know “Mark” is a very common, biblical name, but it’s also one of the least cute names anyone could name a baby boy. Sit Mark Walton week 9.

Start or Sit Devin Singletary vs. Washington Week 9

Bryan’s Take: It’s not so much about Singletary as it is about the inconceivable Frank Gore. At 36 years old, Gore is still the man atop the depth chart in Buffalo, and that is obviously messing with any chance of a Devin Singletary breakout. He was more involved in the passing game last week, when the Bills were struggling to keep pace with the Eagles, and it was the first time he’d played more snaps than Gore all year. I don’t think that carries over into week 9. I still see Gore getting all the carries, and putting up all the yards. Sit Devin Singletary week 9.

Erin’s Take: In general, I think “Devin” is a solid name. I once worked with a preschool teacher with that name, and they were pretty sassy. However, Devin Singletary’s full name makes me think he’s a bit more sensitive. I think he is probably a smart runner, and doesn’t just try to bowl people over on every play, which make me think you should Start Devin Singletary week 9.

Final Ranks

Bryan: Mark Walton > David Montgomery > Devin Singletary

Erin: Devin Singletary > David Montgomery > Mark Walton
