As we gear up to the start of the NFL season, Football Absurdity is going to bring you a comprehensive breakdown of every notable player that will be available in fantasy football drafts.  When you don’t see us talking about Christine Michael or Mike Davis, don’t get mad at us for neglecting your favorite sleeper.  Get mad at yourself for having bad taste in football players.  We are only focusing on the top-rated players in standard scoring and points per game leagues.

With my player profiles, I’ve only decided to go back to look at their fantasy scoring for three years.  I could show you lists from earlier, but most of the guys at the top are no longer in the league anymore.  I’ve also added a chart for their usage over that time span.  We will try to determine, based on those two factors, where the best quarterback value lies.

Cam Newton ADP and AAV

Standard: 9th among QBs, 89th overall

PPR: 9th among QBs, 90th overall

Cam Newton Average Auction Value (AAV) $200 Budget: $11

Stats:

FANTASY SCORING

Rank Total Points PPG Rank PPG
2018 14th 282.6 9th 20.2
2017 3rd 299.5 6th 18.7
2016 19th 254.3 17th 17.0

Overview:  After undergoing shoulder surgery, team staff claims Cam has learned an all-new throwing style. They say that like it’s a good thing, even though his old throwing style was enough to place top 5 in 2017. So we’re optimistic but skeptical.

Strategy: Our Cam Newton Auction Value ($200 Budget): $4

Newton falls into that tier of QBs where the best strategy is just to wait to see who falls a couple of rounds past their ADP.  Which, frankly is what you should be doing with every quarterback, but you can’t stop owners from falling in love (you can only advise them to use contraception). Cam’s ceiling is a top 3 QB, he’s shown it before. But he’s had to redo his throwing motion entirely and get in rhythm in just one preseason. Cool your jets: If he goes in the 10th or for under $5 grab him but if not, someone else equally projected will.

Best Case Scenario: His surgery gives him supernatural Rookie of the Year powers and he can laser every throw… and still only finishes 3rd-5th at QB

Worst Case Scenario: It’s all upper-management hype and Cam finishes as a low-end QB1
