Week 14 Defense
If you read my article on playing the waiver wire game, you know that it is an essential part of winning your fantasy football league. If you haven’t read it, what are you waiting for? I just told you it’s an essential part of winning your fantasy football league! Why do you hate winning?
One of the best ways to maximize your weekly scoring is to stream defenses. This strategy is simple – we aren’t as concerned about good defenses, so much as finding defenses that are playing terrible offenses. Bad offenses are more likely to keep playing bad because if they knew how to be good, they would already be good. Because of this flawless logic, I will be pointing out the best streaming options on a weekly basis.
Week 14 Defense
Week 14 Defense Recommendation: Washington DEF (48% owned)
Week 14 is weak in the defensive streaming department. All the great match-ups are heavily owned. And then there is Washington. Washington is playing a New York Giants team that has given up the 12th most fantasy points to opposing defenses. Even though the Giants have won three of their last four games, don’t let that fool you into thinking they have actually gotten better as a team. They still have an offensive line that gives up a lot of sacks and a quarterback who has thrown the most interceptions in the league. If you are desperate for a streaming option, Washington is a solid option.
Week 14 Defense Recommendation: Detroit DEF (16% owned)
The Detroit Lions are an option to stream only for the most desperate. Their defense is not very good. However, the only thing worse than the Lions defense is the Cardinal’s offense. This year, the Arizona Cardinals have given up the 2nd most fantasy points to opposing defenses. And they just lost Christian Kirk for the rest of the season, taking away a very valuable weapon for an already inept offense. With Detroit, I am more betting against the Cardinals than for the Lions.
ABSURDITY CHECK A.K.A. Second Times The Charm
Week 14 Defense Recommendation: New York Jets DEF (14% owned)
In week 10, I told you to start the New York Jets against the Buffalo Bills. And I was wrong. Horribly wrong. In week 14, the second time will be the charm, because nothing has changed except the quarterback. The Buffalo Bills have still given up the most fantasy points to opposing defenses. The idea that the Bills are going to be able to put together two impressive offensive opponents against the same team is laughable. So the question becomes whether lightning can strike twice… or miss twice. I’m not quite sure where I’m going with this analogy. Just start the Jets. This is my number one play of the week.
