Week 7 Defense

If you read my article on playing the waiver wire game, you know that it is an essential part of winning your fantasy football league. If you haven’t read it, what are you waiting for? I just told you it’s an essential part of winning your fantasy football league! Why do you hate winning?

One of the best ways to maximize your weekly scoring is to stream defenses. This strategy is simple – we aren’t as concerned about good defenses, so much as finding defenses that are playing terrible offenses. Bad offenses are more likely to keep playing bad because if they knew how to be good, they would already be good.  Because of this flawless logic, I will be pointing out the best streaming options on a weekly basis. Here is my take on week 7 defense options which might be available in your leagues.

Indianapolis DEF (9% owned)

The question the Buffalo Bills face is whether they will start Nathan Peterman or Derek Anderson in week seven. Whoever they choose, the real winner is the Indianapolis Colts’ week 7 defense. While the Colts have had to deal with some terrible injuries on defense, the Buffalo Bills have had to deal with being terrible on offense. Currently, the Bills are giving up the most fantasy points to opposing defenses. So the Colts are a very worthwhile streaming option in week seven.

Denver DEF (45% owned)

The Denver Broncos have had some struggles on defense, but there is no denying that they are a talented roster. Rookie Bradley Chubb had a three-sack coming out party in week six against the Rams, and with All-Pro Von Miller opposite him, there is a lot to like about this unit. Especially when they are playing an Arizona Cardinals unit that has given up the 6th most fantasy points to opposing defenses. Strong pass rush vs. terrible offensive line is very good for fantasy defenses.

New York Jets DEF (33% owned)

Last week, I recommended the New York Jets against the Indianapolis Colts, and they turned in one of the best defensive performances of the week.  This week, I’m wondering if they shouldn’t just be owned regularly. They have only really had one bad week, and are steadily producing with the occasional breakout game. This week, they are facing a Minnesota Vikings team that has given up the 10th most fantasy points to opposing defenses.  While it might seem like a weird choice, this could be one of the more surprising defensive plays of week seven.
