If you read my article on playing the waiver wire game, you know that it is an essential part of winning your fantasy football league. If you haven’t read it, what are you waiting for? I just told you it’s an essential part of winning your fantasy football league! Why do you hate winning?
One of the best ways to maximize your weekly scoring is to stream defenses. This strategy is simple – we aren’t as concerned about good defenses, so much as finding defenses that are playing terrible offenses. Bad offenses are more likely to keep playing bad, because if they knew how to be good, they would already be good. Because of this flawless logic, I will be pointing out the best streaming options on a weekly basis.
San Diego Chargers DEF (37% owned)
The fact that the San Diego Chargers are available in 63% of leagues is baffling. You might not realize it, but the Chargers are the number four fantasy football defense this season in standard scoring leagues. The Chargers aren’t just the best week thirteen defense, they are also one of the best fantasy defenses for the rest of the season. Their next four games will be against three teams that have given up top ten fantasy points to opposing defenses. And their most favorable match-up is happening in week thirteen. The Chargers will be playing a Cleveland Browns team that gives up the most fantasy points to opposing defenses. If they are available, you should make grabbing them a priority.
Chicago DEF (18% owned)
If you are looking for a favorable match-up, you could do a lot worse than the Chicago Bears. They are playing a San Francisco 49ers team that has given up the 8th most fantasy points to opposing defenses. The only issue is that there are not many football teams that are worse than the Chicago Bears at playing actual football. It is hard to trust them not to completely screw up, even to a team that is just as bad as they are. However, there is no denying that there is as much talent on the Chicago Bears defense as there is a lack of talent on the San Francisco 49ers offense. You will be hard pressed to find a more favorable match-up for a week thirteen defense.
New Orleans DEF (42% owned)
While I am not sure if they are the best streaming option among week thirteen defenses, they have been a top ten fantasy defense this season. At this point, I would look towards better options. The New Orleans Saints have failed to score double digit fantasy points in standard scoring leagues the last three weeks. This week, they also have a tough divisional match-up against the Carolina Panthers. While it might seem like a tempting option, I would avoid the Saints this week.
