Week eight of the 2024 NFL season has come and gone and I have realized that as a Bears fan, my life will always be a waking nightmare. And the worst part is the Bears are better than most of my fantasy teams. But I refuse to give up because I know an important secret. The waiver wire exists to save you from the cruel and unforgiving fantasy football gods. I’m going to provide you with the best options available. If I don’t mention someone you think I should be talking about, know there are many reasons why I overlooked them. Maybe they are owned in most leagues. Maybe they are so bad I don’t even consider them. Maybe it’s because your opinions cannot be trusted. After all, you are here. So let’s get the best week nine waiver wire adds for your championship run…
Week Nine Waiver Wire Quarterbacks
Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams (30% rostered)
If you were banging the Matthew Stafford drum this offseason like I was, you have been very disappointed. It is interesting how the minute Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua were in the lineup, Stafford had 279 passing yards, 4 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Stafford is good, so if your fantasy quarterback is bad, just get Stafford a.k.a. the QB5 of week 8.
Week Nine Waiver Wire Running Backs
Tyrone Tracy Jr, New York Giants (54% rostered)
While he is above the 50% threshold I usually like to keep this article at, Tyrone Tracy Jr. is also, by far, the best possible running back you can get on the waiver wire. Against the Steelers, Tracy had 145 rushing yards and 1 touchdown on 20 carries. Devin Singletary, on the other hand, had 2 carries. Singletary probably isn’t healthy yet, but does it matter? Over his last four games, Tracy has 419 all-purpose yards. At this point, Tyrone Tracy Jr. is clearly the best back on the New York Giants.
Isaac Guerendo, Kansas City Chiefs (7% rostered)
In week eight, Isaac Guerendo had 102 all-purpose yards and 1 touchdown. More importantly, he out-snapped Mason 63% to 16%. Mason isn’t healthy yet, so Guerendo could be worthwhile. Just know that he has a limited shelf life.
Week Nine Waiver Wire Wide Receivers
Keon Coleman, Buffalo Bills (54% rostered)
Keon Coleman is probably my favorite waiver wire option if he is available. Against the Seahawks, Coleman had 7 catches for 70 yards and 1 touchdown. Since Amari Cooper was traded to the Bills, Coleman has finished as WR11 and WR13, with 195 yards and 1 touchdown. It could be a coincidence or Cooper could be drawing coverage and giving Coleman better looks. I loved Coleman’s tape, so I think he is worth grabbing because of his draft pedigree and the quarterback throwing to him. Keon Coleman is the type of lotto ticket that could win you your league if it hits.
Josh Downs, Indianapolis Colts (42% rostered)
The good news is that Josh Downs has shown he can be productive with Anthony Richardson as his quarterback. The bad news is Anthony Richardson is bad at football. In week eight, Josh Downs had 4 catches for 109 yards and 1 touchdown. Downs has had over 60 yards receiving in 4 of 6 games and should be rostered in every format.
Cedric Tillman, Cleveland Browns (20% rostered)
Cedric Tillman was a hero to everyone in DFS this week. Since the bad man got hurt, Cedric Tillman has become a fantasy monster. In week eight, Tillman had 7 catches for 99 yards and 2 touchdowns. If you need receiver help, Tillman is probably worth a flyer. Just understand that you are counting on the Cleveland Browns being competent.
Week Nine Waiver Wire Tight Ends
Cade Otton, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (47% rostered)
If you read this article regularly, you know I think burning FAAB or waiver priority on a tight end is a waste of time. Tight ends suck and they very rarely produce outside of the blob. So when I tell you that Cade Otton should be a waiver priority for you if you need tight-end help, you know I mean it. In week eight, Otton was the TE1 with 9 catches for 81 yards and 2 touchdowns. With both Godwin and Evans hurt, Otton was the clear primary target in one of the highest-scoring offenses in football. Get Cade Otton.
