As A Prospect:
Alec Pierce was someone who popped on tape while I was watching his QB and RB as prospects. He was constantly beating dudes deep, winning on jump balls and getting behind the secondary on deep routes. Unfortunately, his QB tended to miss him or not see him break free more often than all of us would’ve liked. Pierce is rising up draft boards, and it’s not hard to see why on tape. He’s a physical beast who throws haymaker blocks at the line and downfield to break RBs, while at the same time running a 4.4 40 with a 40” vertical. Pierce could be a major steal in 2022.
Fantasy Football Potential:
I highly doubt that Alec Pierce is drafted in redraft leagues this year, but he should be a priority waiver wire guy if he ends up in a situation to produce during the season. He is a prospect who does all the things he needs to in order to earn playing time, and I think when he gets on the field he will shine. Most redraft leagues with smaller benches will start the season with Pierce on the bench, but I would not be surprised if he is on a roster at the end of the year. In dynasty, you can get Pierce for a song, and if he’s there in the mid-second I’m singing loud and proud. Pierce is one of my major sleepers going into this draft, and in dynasty rookie drafts I’ll do the best I can to swoop in and snag him in as many places as possible.
Overall:
I think Pierce has a lot of upside and sneaky value for both NFL and fantasy rosters at his current price point. He might end up in the 2nd round of the draft, and if he goes in the top 75 I think the sky’s the limit for this guy. He is a late riser who has seen his value skyrocket after athletic testing, but the tape shows a guy that absolutely dominated this year. After rewatching the Alabama tape, I feel like he would’ve had a better performance against top competition if his QB was a little bit more accurate. He translates as a raw prospect with elite potential at the next level, and here’s hoping he goes to a team with good WR coaching and an accurate QB.
