Week Eight Defense Fantasy Football – The Failing Falcons

If you read my article on playing the waiver wire game, you know that it is an essential part of winning your fantasy football league. If you haven’t read it, what are you waiting for? I just told you it’s an essential part of winning your fantasy football league! Why do you hate winning?

One of the best ways to maximize your weekly scoring is to stream defenses.  This strategy is simple – we aren’t as concerned about good defenses, so much as finding defenses that are playing terrible offenses.  Bad offenses are more likely to keep playing bad because if they knew how to be good, they would already be good.  Because of this flawless logic, I will be pointing out the best streaming options on a weekly basis.

Seattle DEF (45% owned) @ Atlanta

Seattle is coming off a pretty devastating week seven loss to the Baltimore Ravens. But nothing will get you out of a slump like playing the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons were terrible before Matt Ryan hurt his ankle and they traded Mohamed Sanu. I can’t imagine they’ve gotten any better at football. The Falcons are in an absolute tailspin and the Seahawks might be my favorite defensive streaming option in week eight.

Philadelphia DEF (42% owned) @ Buffalo

If you look at their record, it would be easy to convince yourself that the Buffalo Bills are a good football team. However, they are what we call in the biz a “paper giant. They’ve managed to rack up wins against the likes of the New York Jets and New York Giants in an attempt at New York supremacy, but beating up on the Miami Dolphins doesn’t make you a winner. It just means you know how to beat up a loser. The Eagles are easily one of the toughest teams on the Bills’ schedule and Buffalo has given up the eighth-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. Eagles are a very interesting streaming option, as it is very likely Josh Allen will make the Eagles defense look much better than it actually is.

Detroit DEF (12% owned) @ New York Giants

If you ignore last week’s performance against a resurgent Minnesota Vikings offense, the Detroit Lions have been a pretty consistent fantasy defense, averaging low-end DEF1 numbers. In week eight, they will get to play a New York Giants team that is still giving up the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing defenses. If you need a defense to stream, Detroit is the way to go.
