2018’s Best Fantasy Football Player: Josh Allen (…?!?!), Quarterback
2018’s Biggest Fantasy Football Disappointment: Kelvin Benjamin, Wide Receiver
2019 Fantasy Football Draft Wishlist: Offensive Line, Wide Receiver
The 2018 Buffalo Bills went about as well as we could expect. Not a lot of people, myself included, expected a whole heckuva lot from rookie QB Josh Allen. Once he finally got his chance, he fully delivered on both of his promising traits (throwing the ball over a mountain and long, seemingly impossible runs). He wasn’t a good quarterback by any means (so I will continue my half-hearted victory lap) but he was a good fantasy football QB. Scratch that, he was the best fantasy football quarterback to own in the last five weeks in the season. With that production under his belt, Josh Allen showed that he could actually enhance a fantasy football commodity if they come to Buffalo. With that in mind, we look at what fantasy football owners should root for in the draft to maximize production in Buffalo.
The real shame is that they likely will not draft the other Josh Allen. I need to know what that jersey situation would have looked like.
Buffalo Bills Fantasy Football Draft Wishlist, Item 1: Offensive Line
Josh Allen ran so much because he was running for his life. Everyone knew the Bills offensive line was going to be complete dreck headed into the season, and they did not disappoint those who thought they would be terrible. They were Pro Football Focus’s 26th-ranked offensive line last season, and they were a big reason why the Bills run game was a mess all year. Spending their first rounder, and multiple picks thereafter, along the line, is the smartest thing the Bills could do.
Buffalo Bills Fantasy Football Draft Wishlist, Item 2: Wide Receiver
The flipside is that drafting D.K. Metcalf in the first round is the dumbest thing the Bills could do. Or Marquise Brown. I’m not talking Metcalf here; let someone else fall on that bomb. With Robert Foster, Zay Jones and Josh Brown already on the roster, they are full up on guys who can run nine routes. Call me skeptical that Cole Beasley will do much for fantasy football this season. Fantasy football owners should root for the Bills getting a strong safety valve for Josh Allen, like a Kelvin Harmon, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, or A.J. Brown.
