NFL Draft: Atlanta Falcons Fantasy Football Wishlist

Fantasy Football Julio Jones

2018’s Best Atlanta Falcons Fantasy Football Player: Julio Jones, Wide Receiver
2018’s Biggest Atlanta Falcons Fantasy Football Disappointment: Tevin Coleman, Running Back
2019 Atlanta Falcons Fantasy Football Draft Wishlist: Left Tackle, Running Back

The Atlanta Falcons had an incredibly powerful squad headed into the 2019 season and were poised to retake their place at the top of the NFC Pantheon. But, a funny thing happened on the way back to the Super Bowl. Injuries ravaged the Falcons, leaving a chunk of their defense on the shelf, and costing them the vast majority of Devonta Freeman’s campaign.

What then, of fantasy football in 2019. Matt Ryan is coming off a top-three season, and tight end Austin Hooper broke out last year. Devonta Freeman’s small frame and Ito Smith’s inability to produce in his stead leave some questions for 2019. The team is mostly set from a fantasy football perspective, but two glaring holes remain for them to bring more fantasy football goodness come 2019.

Atlanta Falcons Fantasy Football Wishlist, Item 1: Left Tackle

The Falcons need to shore up their offensive line, as their run blocking was fine, but Matt Ryan was sacked 42 times last year (the eighth-most), and he needs someone to protect his blindside. The Falcons have been tied to multiple high-value OTs in the draft, including Jawaan Taylor, Jonah Williams, and Tytus Howard. It’s a smart move for the Dirty Birds to keep their franchise QB upright, and to keep road grading for their fragile starting running back. Speaking of running backs…

Atlanta Falcons Fantasy Football Wishlist, Item 2: Running Back

The Falcons drafted Ito Smith to allow Tevin Coleman to walk, with Smith to take up the backup RB role come 2019. The 49ers poached Tevin Coleman, but Ito Smith didn’t exactly inspire in his limited time getting significant run in 2018. The Falcons did not spend a lot of draft capital on Ito, so it’s not like they would be averse to replacing him. Devin Singletary reminds me a lot of Tevin Coleman and would be an amazing fit here. It’s one of the few places where Singletary would return immediate fantasy football value and is a pairing we should be rooting for.
