Fantasy Football Week Five WR Sleepers
Week five finds the Buccaneers and the Bears on Bye, which means many of us will be without Allen Robinson, Mike Evans, DeSean Jackson, and Chris Godwin. That leaves a lot of room in a lot of leagues to try to fill in with one or more WR sleepers. We at Football Absurdity like to help separate the wheat from the chaff and bring you only the primo WR sleepers each week. To make this list, the WR sleepers are available in over 50% of Yahoo! leagues, with one of the wide receiver sleepers available in over 90% of leagues. Ownership percentages are as of Wednesday afternoon after waivers have run.
Keke Coutee versus Dallas (32% owned)
It’s hard to argue against a guy who is essentially a stronger (though slightly slower) version of the player he replaced when he gets eleven receptions in his first full game of action. Will Fuller will be hobbled even if he plays this weekend against the Cowboys, and Coutee will step straight into his role. The Cowboys aren’t the best matchup on paper, but it’s hard to argue with the prospective volume from a guy who gets 15 targets in his first real action.
Mohamed Sanu at Pittsburgh (24% owned)
While Calvin Ridley is getting all the fantasy football hype, Mohamed Sanu has quietly out-snapped and out-targeted him. He broke through the last couple of weeks, turning 8 targets a game into 147 yards and a score in those contests. He’ll keep rolling against the Steelers, who allow the third-most fantasy points to wide receivers on the year.
IF YOU READ THIS BEFORE THURSDAY: Chester Rogers at New England (1% owned)
T.Y. Hilton and Jack Doyle have already been ruled out. That leaves Eric Ebron, Nyheim Hines and ol’ Chester to handle the passing volume from Andrew Luck (who had 62 pass attempts Sunday). He had over four targets for the first time on Sunday, and turned in eight catches for 85 yards. The Patriots are a neutral fantasy matchup.
IF YOU READ THIS AFTER THURSDAY: Christian Kirk versus San Francisco (10% owned)
The Rosen2Kirk connection looked good last week, even if it wasn’t as productive or voluminous as fantasy football owners would have wanted. A very badly reversed touchdown kept Kirk from truly breaking out last week, but he leads the team in air yards over the last few weeks. The 49ers represent a neutral matchup, but Kirk should produce here.
