Fantasy Football Week Five QB Sleepers
This week finds only two NFL teams on a bye (the Bears and the Buccaneers), and given that Mitchell Trubisky sucked out loud until last week and the Bucs are between QBs right now, so very few people are desperate for QB sleepers. That having been said, there are those among us who play the quarterback streaming game, so this article is for you. Every week, we at Football Absurdity hope to help you find QB sleepers who can help you win your week. These players can be had, for free, off your waiver wire. These week five QB sleepers are available in over 50% of Yahoo! leagues, with one of the QB sleepers available in over 90% of leagues. Ownership percentages are as of Wednesday afternoon after waivers have run.
Derek Carr at Chargers (41% owned)
If Derek Carr had a decent touchdown count, then the fantasy football cognoscenti would put some respect on his name. He has over 275 yards passing in all four games this season. He had four TDs last week, but only two in the three weeks prior, and his 1.75 interceptions per game are worrying. Luckily he takes on a Chargers squad that allows 2.5 passing touchdowns a game this year.
Blake Bortles at Kansas City (38% owned)
I wrote a whole article about it this week, but the former #3 overall pick is a top-ten quarterback over the last eight games. He has just three picks in four games this season and is averaging over 18 fantasy points a contest. He takes on a Chiefs quad that allowed Rivers, Big Ben and Jimmy G multiple touchdowns against them. Only Jimmy G’s knee injury kept him from that third score against the questionable defense. Bortles is a great play this week, yet again. I just hope people keep underrating him so I can keep this free space on this article every week. Stupid Andy Dalton went and made himself respectable, and made my life harder in the process.
Josh Rosen at San Francisco (4% owned)
The 49ers have an extraordinarily banged up defense right now, and even before that was the case, they weren’t very good. They’re third-worst in the league at garnering sacks (having no edge rusher will do that), and they have just one interception on the year. Josh Rosen will be in only his second career start, but looked confident and accurate in his first game under center, though his final numbers were betrayed by bad no-catch calls and horrendous drops. The Niners allow the eighth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks, and Rosen had 180/1 even with his pass catchers betraying him. He’s not a bad desperation play or second sleeper QB in a two-QB league.
