It’s fantasy football week nine, which means we’re only seven weeks from fantasy championships, and over halfway through the real fantasy football season. “What about week seventeen championships?” you might ask. To that, I say: join a real fantasy football league. As always, we’re here to help with some fantasy football sleeper wide receivers to help plug holes in your lineup. These guys are owned in less than 50% of Yahoo! leagues, with one player available in at least 90% of Yahoo! leagues. The same caveats apply: see if the guy’s in Waleed’s Waiver Wire Cheat Sheet are available in your league. If they aren’t, then here are some fantasy football sleeper wide receiver options for you!
Week Nine Fantasy Football WR Sleeper:
Danny Amendola at Oakland (31% Owned)
It’s hard to believe it, but Danny Amendola ranks tenth in targets in the last two weeks, putting him above guys like Cooper Kupp, DJ Chark, and T.Y. Hilton. This also puts him ninth in air yards, seventh in… actual yards and third in receptions in the same timeframe. Coincidentally, this coincides with Kerryon Johnson’s untimely death and turning to the running back stylings of Tra Carson and Ty Johnson. It makes sense that the Lions will now lean on their passing attack as an extension of the run game, which means more Danny Amendola (until he gets hurt). This week, Amendola takes on a Raiders squad that allows the sixth-most fantasy points to wide receivers, including three 12+ fantasy point days in half-PPR in their last two games.
Week Nine Fantasy Football WR Sleeper:
DeVante Parker versus N.Y. Jets (31% Owned)
Do I feel good recommending a Dolphins wide receiver? No. Do I feel good recommending a Dolphins wide receiver when it’s the perpetually disappointing DeVante Parker? [dolphin noises that mean “heck no”]. Parker’s been on something somewhat approximating a roll lately, scoring at least 8.9 half-PPR fantasy points per game in his last four games, including touchdowns in three of his last four. The Jets bleed fantasy football points to wide receivers, including three touchdowns to three different Jaguars last week. Look, I don’t feel good about recommending Dolphins, but zigging when everyone is zagging (zagging is internet slang for saying “lol dolphins”) is how you win fantasy football titles.
Deep Dive Week Nine Fantasy Football WR Sleeper:
Demaryius Thomas at Miami (10% Owned)
Demaryius squeaks in right under the bar, at 10% ownership on Wednesday afternoon. He’s thirteenth in air yards over the last two weeks, just ahead of Courtland Sutton, Corey Davis, Stefon Diggs, and Mike Evans. He really started getting his targets going four weeks ago, and he has 27 targets in his last four games. He hasn’t hit paydirt yet, but a repeat of his 5/63 from last week provides a decent WR3 or flex PPR play. If he kicks in a touchdown against a Miami defense that’s allowed six WR TDs in the last three games? Baby, you’ve got a stew going.
