Should I Pick up Mohamed Sanu?
We put out an Absurdity Check when we get a ton of the same question on our fantasy football advice Discord, and that question has an obvious answer. Today, it’s “should I pick up Mohamed Sanu?”
Sanu was just traded to the Patriots. New England sent a second round pick for him, which is a sign that Josh Gordon isn’t returning to full health any time soon. Owned in 56% of Yahoo! leagues and 49% of ESPN leagues, there’s a reasonable chance he’s available in your leagues. We know New England likes to play with new toys: Gordon, Antonio Brown, Randy Moss, etc. all had lightning fast starts on this team. Now, to say Sanu is in the same category of any of them in terms of skill is laughable. However, a second round pick means New England must really see something in the eighth year veteran. He will be going against Cleveland’s so-so secondary, and will get close to a full week’s worth of practice with Tom Brady.
We definitely are picking up Sanu wherever we can, a talented player moving into a great opportunity is the best kind of lottery ticket. We’re even starting him this week whereever we need a WR2, New England has been clowning their opponents and should have ample scoring opportunities. Though he only has 1 touchdown on the year, he had three straight double digit weeks in half PPR in the last month. Atlanta’s offense has been bizarrely hot and cold and Sanu is the clear WR3 there. In New England, as long as Josh Gordon remains hobbled, Sanu could rival Phillip Dorsett for the second WR spot.
So, for those of you wondering “should I pick up Mohamed Sanu?” The answer is a clear, “duh!”
