If you read my article on playing the waiver wire game, you know that it is an essential part of winning your fantasy football league. If you haven’t read it, what are you waiting for? I just told you it’s an essential part of winning your fantasy football league! Why do you hate winning?
One of the best ways to maximize your weekly scoring is to stream defenses. This strategy is simple – we aren’t as concerned about good defenses, so much as finding defenses that are playing terrible offenses. Bad offenses are more likely to keep playing bad because if they knew how to be good, they would already be good. Because of this flawless logic, I will be pointing out the best streaming options on a weekly basis.
Washington DEF (46% owned) @ Miami
Washington has been pretty bad on defense this year, but nothing will get you right faster than playing the Miami Dolphins. The Miami Dolphins are in full-on tank mode and is exercising a defense that has given up the most fantasy points to opposing defenses. They are so bad, Washington has been added in over 40% of leagues. So if they are still available in your league, grab them.
Seattle DEF (41% owned) @ Cleveland
If you watched the 49ers play the Browns on Monday night, you saw a Cleveland team that has looked hopelessly inept on offense. Their offensive line, in particular, has been getting man-handled all season. In comes the Jadaveon Clowney-led Seattle Seahawks, and it looks like a recipe for disaster. On top of all this, Cleveland has given up the fifth-most fantasy points to opposing defenses. If you need to stream a defense, Seattle is a strong option.
Green Bay DEF (43% owned) @ Detroit
On paper, this is probably an even match-up. But the fact that this is a nationally-televised game and the Detroit Lions are the opposing teams, makes me think that this is a perfect opportunity for them to tell the nation that they are still the Detroit Lions. More importantly, the Green Bay Packers have been a top-ten fantasy defense four of the last five weeks. The fact that they are only 43% owned is ridiculous, as they are almost a plug-and-play defense on a weekly basis. If the Packers are on your waiver wire, add them.
