It’s hard to believe that we’re already on week four of this fantasy football season. Between mono, thumbs, sudden retirements, elbows, feet, clavicles, and chronic Ryan Fitzpatrickness or Eli Manningitis, it feels like every team has had turnover at QB already. That means you might need to look to find some sort of quarterback sleeper to bridge the gap between now and the cold release of knowing you don’t have to stress about this anymore in three months (and then, death). Between now and then, we’ll be here to help you find quarterback sleepers for the week. As always, check out Waleed Ismail’s Week Four Waiver Wire Cheat Sheet to see if any of those guys slipped through, and then the week four quarterback sleepers below. To qualify for the QB sleepers list, the quarterback must be available in at least 50% of Yahoo! fantasy football leagues, with one player under 10% ownership.
Week Four QB Sleeper:
“Prime Time” Andy Dalton at Pittsburgh (32% Owned)
I wanted to fight the eventuality of ending up with Andy Dalton in this article this week. After all, the Primetime Andy Spectre looms over us all. As the legend goes, Andy Dalton plays terribly in primetime games. While the Bengals traditionally lose these games (6-14 record), Dalton doesn’t play… horribly. He doesn’t play great, either. He gets about 220 yards, averaging just under a pick, and 1.3 touchdowns per game. That’s over his career, but last season saw Dalton toss five TDs and one interception in his two primetime contests. This season, Dalton has at least 18 fantasy points in all three games. He’s thrown multiple touchdowns in two-of-three contests and averages a hair under 330 yards passing.
This week, Dalton gets a reeling Pittsburgh team that just lost to the 49ers. The Steelers put up a good defense against Jimmy Garoppolo last week, but they’ve allowed the ninth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this year, with 2 QBs already throwing for over 300 yards and 3 scores against them. Can Andy keep it rolling, or will Prime Time Andy take over?
Week Four QB Sleeper:
Kyle Allen at Houston (12% Owned)
We’re two-for-two with Kyle Allen so far in his career, as Kyle Allen’s week three start somehow improved on his week seventeen three-touchdown game in 2018. “The Other K. Allen Currently in the NFL” carved up the Cardinals for four touchdowns on just 26 pass attempts. His low yardage total—261—is forgiven given he turned in those numbers without a turnover. He gets the start again with week, as Cam Newton’s foot likely keeps him out for at least this game, and potentially for a long time.
This week, Allen takes on a Houston defense that isn’t as strong against opposing quarterbacks as you’d think, given their normal stinginess. Philip Rivers and Drew Brees already carved them up this season, with Gardner Minshew’s first career start standing in the way of making it three-for-three good performances against the Texans. For the season, they’ve allowed the sixth-most fantasy football points to opposing QBs.
Week Four QB Sleeper:
Dwayne Haskins at N.Y. Giants (3% Owned)
The reason Haskins has such a low ownership percentage likely stems from the fact that he isn’t exactly the starter in Washington right now. I’ll give you that. However, Case Keenum remained in a walking boot in practice on Wednesday, throwing his availability for Sunday in doubt. Haskins, the #15 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft went 32/58 for 409 yards, two picks, and two scores in the preseason. He had four rush attempts for 21 yards, but running has never been a part of his game.
Gardner Minshew, and Daniel “Danny Dimes” Jones have already shown us you don’t need to fear a QB in his first career start. Don’t panic about that with Haskins if he gets the nod Sunday. The Giants allowed multiple QB touchdowns in each of their first three games. They’ve allowed over 1,000 yards passing in the first three games, as well.
