Fantasy Football Sony Michel: 2018 Player Profile

Fantasy Football Sony Michel

If you care more about fun than fumbling in your running back, then this fantasy football Sony Michel player profile is for you. As we gear up to the start of the NFL season, Football Absurdity is going to bring you a comprehensive breakdown of every notable player that will be available in fantasy football drafts.  When you don’t see us talking about Christine Michael or Mike Davis, don’t get mad at us for neglecting your favorite sleeper.  Get mad at yourself for having bad taste in football players.  We are only focusing on the top-rated running backs in standard scoring and points per game leagues.

With my player profiles, I’ve only decided to go back to look at their fantasy scoring for three years.  I could show you lists from earlier, but most of the guys at the top are no longer in the league anymore.  I’ve also added a chart for their usage over that time span.  We will try to determine, based on those two factors, where the best running back value lies.

Current ADP (As of 9/3/2018):

Standard: Number 28 among running backs.  Number 72 overall.

PPR: Number 32 among running backs.  Number 78 overall.

Fantasy Football Sony Michel Stats:

Overview: As I already mentioned in the Rashaad Penny and Saquon Barkley articles, one of the most telling statistics pointed out to me by Kevin Genson of Beersheets fame is that running backs drafted in the first round of the NFL draft tend to end their rookie seasons as RB1s.  Over the past five seasons, five of eight backs have ended the year as RB1’s in standard scoring and six of eight backs have been RB1’s in PPR leagues.  What this tells me is that teams that draft running backs in the first round want to get the most out of their investment and do so by running them straight at opposing defenses.

I have a couple of questions though.  First, how many first-round running backs had their knee drained before the season started?  Second, how many first-round running backs were in a crowded Belichick backfield?  Finally, how many of those running backs also had fumbling issues?  Truth be told, Sony Michel scares the hell out of me.  The scariest thing about him is how talented he actually is.  Sony Michel is a very dynamic runner who, if healthy, could be a game-changer.

Fantasy Football Sony Michel Strategy: At his current ADP, Sony Michel is a very interesting play.  Sure, you could draft Delaine Walker or Kyle Rudolph at that spot, but when has drafting a tight end ever helped anyone in fantasy football?  Never!  At his current ADP, Sony Michel is a high-risk/high-reward play with very little real competition in New England.  Michel has the potential to pay off bigger than the other players around his ADP.

Fantasy Football Sony Michel Ceiling: Sony Michel will be the first Patriots running back since Corey Dillon to get an extended workload, and he will work his way up to a low-end RB1.

Fantasy Football Sony Michel Floor:  What will actually happen is you will spend your entire fantasy season trying to figure out if this is the week Bill Belichick will finally give Sony Michel a lot of touches.  You will rotate him in and out of your lineup until one day, you look in the mirror and realize you were Bill Belichick this entire time.
