2018 Fantasy Football: Dalvin Cook Player Profile

Dalvin Cook Player Profile

If ACL’s are an afterthought to you, then this fantasy football Dalvin Cook player profile is for you. As we gear up to the start of the NFL season, Football Absurdity is going to bring you a comprehensive breakdown of every notable player that will be available in fantasy football drafts.  When you don’t see us talking about Christine Michael or Mike Davis, don’t get mad at us for neglecting your favorite sleeper.  Get mad at yourself for having bad taste in football players.  We are only focusing on the top-rated running backs in standard scoring and points per game leagues.

With my player profiles, I’ve only decided to go back to look at their fantasy scoring for three years.  I could show you lists from earlier, but most of the guys at the top are no longer in the league anymore.  I’ve also added a chart for their usage over that time span.  We will try to determine, based on those two factors, where the best running back value lies.

Overview:  People were screaming about how crazy it was Dalvin Cook fell to the second round of the NFL draft.  Then they were screaming at their television as he proved them right.  Unfortunately, those screams of joy turned into screams of despair as he tore his ACL four games into the season.  Before he got hurt, he was well on his way to being an RB1.  The question with Cook is about how his recovery is coming along and how it will affect his value.

Strategy: I do not question Dalvin Cook’s talent.  However, at his current ADP, I don’t think I can justify taking him.  An early second-round draft pick for a guy coming off a serious knee injury seems like a bad idea. Especially in a draft with much more reliable options, such as Devonta Freeman or Melvin Gordon, available at the same slot.  He could be an RB1, but he could also take a year to truly get back to form.

Ceiling: It will turn out there is something in the drinking water in Minnesota and he’ll produce an Adrian Peterson-esque season, shattering records on his way to RB1 status.

Floor:  What will actually happen is he will have to be brought back slowly and will have multiple setbacks throughout the 2018 NFL season.  You will regret drafting a running back with one knee with your second-round pick.
