NFL Quarter Season: NFC South Review

NFC South Review

We are a quarter of the way through the 2017 NFL Season and nothing has gone as expected.  Just the way we like it.  The only thing predicable about the NFL is how unpredictable it is.  So let’s take a look at where it all went wrong for the teams with our NFC South review of the quarter point of the season.

fantasy football week four

Atlanta Falcons (3-1)

The Atlanta Falcons are 3-1, but don’t let that record fool you.  For supposedly being the best team in the NFC, they look more like a team that should be 1-3.  Detroit beat them in week four, but because of an old, archaic directive in the NFL rulebook, NFL referees are mandated to steal a win from the Detroit Lions every two years.  Atlanta just happened to win out this year.  And the only reason they didn’t lose to the Chicago Bears is because their receivers dropped every game winning pass thrown their way.  So don’t let their record fool you, the Falcons are better than bad teams, but that doesn’t make them good.

Carolina Panthers (3-1)

The Carolina Panthers are 3-1 in the division and nobody is quite sure how they got there.  I honestly had to look at the standings twice, because I was sure they had to be at best a 2-2 team.  They certainly haven’t looked like a team with a winning record.  OK, they beat the San Francisco 49ers, but so has everyone else.  They still lost to the New Orleans Saints, so I’m not sure how seriously they can be taken.  And before you bring up the Panther’s offensive performance against New England, save your breath.  If the New England defense was a woman, she’d be giving out hand jobs for free on the side of the road.  Scoring on them isn’t that impressive.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-1)

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had what looked to be one of the most complete football rosters going into the 2017 NFL season. And then Kwon Alexander and Lavonte David died.  While they have managed to pull off a winning record so far, we should probably wait to see how many other players the Bucs lose before we get our hopes up.  After all, they are still the Bucs.

New Orleans Saints (2-2)

The New Orleans Saints started off the season getting clowned on defense and then suddenly were able to shut down the Carolina Panthers and Miami Dolphins.  Does this mean that the Saints have finally figured out how to stop NFL offenses? Considering both teams haven’t been able to score against a real opponent, I think the more likely answer is that we are going to see our normal run of explosive offensive performances and hilarious defensive performances from the Saints as they race toward the finish line of an 8-8 record.
