NFL Quarter Season: AFC South Review

week five trade targets

We are a quarter of the way through the 2017 NFL Season and nothing has gone as expected.  Just the way we like it.  The only thing predicable about the NFL is how unpredictable it is.  So let’s take a look at where it all went wrong for the teams with our AFC South review of the quarter point of the season.

Houston Texans (2-2)

The Houston Texans are tied for first place in their division, but don’t let that fool you.  As in years past, the battle for the AFC South isn’t about winning the division, it is about letting everyone else lose it.  The good news for the Texans is that their rookie quarterback can actually throw the football, so the Texans will have to search for new and interesting ways to lose their division.

Jacksonville Jaguars (2-2)

In a division of average, the Jacksonville Jaguars have actually shown significant improvement by being average along with the rest of the division.  This is a remarkable improvement from years past, when average was too difficult a task for them to achieve.  However, don’t let their 2-2 record fool you.  They did lose to the Jets, so they are probably still really bad.

Tennessee Titans (2-2)

Four weeks into the season, the exotic smashmouth running attack of the Tennessee Titans has been pretty unremarkable.  Which is just the way they like things in the AFC.  You don’t want anyone to start playing football too well, because then you might foster some competition.  With a team that is doing an average job of moving the football on offense and a terrible job of stopping teams from moving the football on defense, the Tennessee Titans have a leg up on the rest of the division in the race to .500 football.

Indianapolis Colts (1-3)

In a division of average football, the Indianapolis Colts rise above and strive for mediocrity.  However, don’t let their 1-3 record fool you.  They only have one win against the Browns, which we have already established, does not count.  They are essentially a winless team without Luck.  Luckily for them, their quarterback has started practicing again, so they can now begin their long journey towards being average.
