Waiver Wire Wide Receiver Week Five: Fantasy Football Wide Receiver aka Out Routes and Onamonapia

Waiver Wire Wide Receiver

The week five waiver wire is an interesting place to look for wide receivers.  Two of the top ten receivers for this past week are available in most leagues.  One of them is definitely worth a roster spot.  The other is fool’s gold. So let us examine what our best waiver wire wide receiver options for week five are.

Will Fuller —  Owned in 30% of leagues — Will Fuller was one of my favorite sleeper candidates at wide receiver going into this season.  Right until he broke his collarbone.  But he is all healed up and was ready to go in week five, catching 5 passes for 35 yards and 2 touchdowns.  In his first game back, Fuller had the second most targets on the team, firmly establishing himself as the number two receiver.  If you need receiver help, Will Fuller should be your number one waiver wire wide receiver target.

Devin FunchessOwned in 24% of leagues  — Devin Funchess had the best game of his career against the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots.  His 7 catches for 70 yards and 2 touchdowns might make you think that he has finally come into his own and is living up to his draft status.  His team high 9 targets might make you think that he is finally becoming a focal point of the Carolina Panthers offense.  You might think all these things if you didn’t know that the New England Patriots have given up the second most fantasy points to wide receivers this season.  You might also be forgiven for forgetting that Kelvin Benjamin was coming off a knee injury, which may have impacted his snap count.  You just might not be able to forgive yourself if you burn your waiver wire priority on him.

John Brown — Owned in 39% of leagues — For the first time in two weeks, John Brown was back on the field.  While his stat line of 3 catches for 47 yards doesn’t seem that impressive, he was targeted 7 times.  When healthy, John Brown appears to be the clear-cut number two receiver in Arizona.  The problem is figuring out when he is healthy.  While I would not burn my waiver priority on him, I would definitely keep an eye on him to see if anything develops.
