Week 7 Waiver Wire RBs

Week 6 is almost behind us and with it your belief that the running back you drafted will ever play football again. Some of you thought Le’Veon Bell would be back by now. And you were wrong. Some of you thought Devonta Freeman couldn’t stay hurt forever. And you were wrong. Some of you thought fantasy football could be fun. And oh boy were you wrong. Lucky for you, there are options among week 7 waiver wire RBs to save you from yourself. If I don’t mention someone whom you think I should be talking about, just know there are many reasons why I overlooked them. Maybe they are owned in most leagues. Maybe they are so bad I don’t even consider them. Maybe it’s because your opinions cannot be trusted. After all, you are here. So let us examine what our best options are of the week 7 waiver wire RBs.

Latavius MurrayOwned in 48% of leagues – Remember in the preseason when I told you that I did not trust Dalvin Cook because he was coming off of an ACL tear? If you are looking at running backs right now, you probably didn’t listen and are still holding onto Dalvin Cook and a small sliver of hope. Even if you aren’t a Cook owner, so long as he is injured Latavius Murray might seem like a solid choice of the week 7 waiver wire RBs.  After all, he just ran for 155 yards and a touchdown. And he might be a solid running back option if he got to play the Arizona Cardinals every week.  Unfortunately, he doesn’t get to play the worst defense against fantasy running backs every week. For this reason, I would tread cautiously before adding him to my fantasy roster.

Marlon MackOwned in 26% of leagues – With Marlon Mack’s hamstring woes finally behind him, Marlon Mack celebrated with an 89-yard rushing performance on just 12 carries. Some might think this means that Mack will take over the lead back role in Indianapolis. However, Mack was still on the field only 35% of the time. At the moment, Nyheim Hines is on the field more, but this is a situation that is constantly in flux. I would wait a week before adding Mack, but he would definitely be on my radar. Of the week 7 waiver wire RBs available, he has the best shot of being productive down the stretch.

ABSURDITY CHECK AKA What Is Dead May Never Die

Frank GoreOwned in 36% of leagues – Long after the seas have dried up, long after the mountains have crumbled to dust, long after your fantasy team has been eliminated from playoff contention, he will be there. Some say the Highlander movies were based on the life of Frank Gore. In week six, the ageless wonder rushed 15 times for 101 yards against the NFL’s best run defense. Frank Gore has a career to be envied, but if you have him on your fantasy roster, it is time for your team to retire.

Other notable running backs to monitor

Ito SmithOwned in 12% of leagues  (Could be worth a look, so long as Freeman is hurt. So, most weeks moving forward, probably)

EDITOR’S NOTE:  With the news that Devonta Freeman is being sent to IR, Ito Smith just became the most valuable add at running back this week.  If you need running back help, he should be your number one claim.

Duke Johnson Jr.Owned in 39% of leagues (Is only valuable when Cleveland is playing from behind.)

Peyton BarberOwned in 38% of leagues (Fool me once, shame on you. Add him to your fantasy roster, and you’re the fool.)
