Week Six Defense Fantasy Football – Exhausting All Options

Week Six Defense Fantasy Football

If you read my article on playing the waiver wire game, you know that it is an essential part of winning your fantasy football league.  If you haven’t read it, what are you waiting for?  I just told you it’s an essential part of winning your fantasy football league!  Why do you hate winning?

One of the best ways to maximize your weekly scoring is to stream week six defenses.  This strategy is simple: we aren’t as concerned about good defenses so much as finding defenses that are playing terrible offenses.  Bad offenses are more likely to keep playing bad because if they knew how to be good, they would already be good.  Because of this flawless logic, I will be pointing out the best streaming options on a weekly basis.

Green Bay DEF (47% owned)

My number one week six defense streaming option is the Green Bay Packers.  They are playing a San Francisco 49ers team that is missing its starting quarterback and is down to their last viable running back.  Last week, without Garoppolo, the 49ers offense gave up four sacks, five turnovers, and a defensive touchdown.  Moreover, while Green Bay has had their struggles this season, when they have shown up, they have shown up big

Cleveland DEF (37% owned)

Through five weeks, the Cleveland Browns defense has finished in the top twelve four times and top five once.  The fact that I am referring to them as a streaming option and not a plug-and-play is baffling.  They were able to shut down Drew Brees this year in New Orleans!  They are a top flight defense and they are playing a Los Angeles Chargers team that has given up the tenth-most fantasy points to opposing defenses. While I think Green Bay is the better week six defense match-up this week, Cleveland is probably the better option for the rest of the season.

New York Jets DEF (28% owned)

If you are looking for a week six defense that is more outside-the-box, the New York Jets are a very interesting option.  On paper, the New York Jets are the number two defense in fantasy football.  In reality, they are a middling defense whose numbers benefit from an incredible week one.  However, they are playing an Indianapolis team whose defense is in disarray and whose offense has given up the eight most fantasy points to opposing defenses this year.  The New York Jets defense has the potential to have a blow out performance among week six defenses.  I like them a lot if you are looking for a home run.

Absurdity Check:

Cincinnati DEF (25% owned)

Last week, we recommended the 11% owned Bengals defense. They finished as the top defense week 5. What is absurd about this match-up?  Only Ben Roethlisberger’s home/road splits.  To keep a long story short, Big Ben is bad on the road.  The Cincinnati Bengals are playing Big Ben on a road game.  Ergo, Big Ben will be bad and the Bengals will be good.
