2018 Fantasy Football Sleeper, Breakout & Bust: Green Bay Packers

For the 2018 season, we will explore a 2018 fantasy football sleeper, breakout (or bounce back), and bust from every NFL team. First, a sleeper can leap into top-tier production at a bargain basement draft day price. A breakout is available in the middle rounds and will return positive value of at least a couple rounds. Bounce backs are normally helpful players coming off a down year or years whom you can acquire for a song. Busts are the worst case scenario: a player who drastically underperforms his draft position. While they may not be a wasted pick, you definitely don’t want them on your team.

Today, we turn our attention to the Green Bay Packers and their seven hundred thousand skill position players; can you find fantasy football value in Lambeau?

2018 Fantasy Football Sleeper – Geronimo Allison, Wide Receiver (ADP 210, WR69)
While nobody can deny that Geronimo Allison comes with a nice price tag, there’s a distinct chance he could end up just sucking. However, I don’t think that’s the case. He’s not exceptionally talented, but he’s played with Aaron Rodgers for several years, developing rapport. In a Rodgers-led offense, having a mind meld with the GOAT is as important as running crisp routes or being able to jump out of a building. Will the rookies or sophomores, who have had little to no field time, be able to absorb Aaron Rodgers’ katra, or will it be the guy who demonstrated last year he can be where Rodgers will find him?

Allison currently slots in as the WR3 in Green Bay, but I don’t believe that Randall Cobb (who is already hurt) will stay healthy all year. Injuries chase Cobb ’round the moons of Nibia and ’round the Antares Maelstrom and ’round perdition’s flames, which means that Allison will have his time to shine in Green Bay as the 2018 fantasy football sleeper. It’s just logical. Then again, it could also be Jeff Janis or Jared Abbrederis, too.

2018 Fantasy Football Breakout – Jamaal Williams, Running Back (ADP 92, RB36)
This is what Jeffstradamus sees coming down the pike for the Green Bay backfield in 2018: Jamaal Williams, thanks to the Aaron Jones suspension, gets the first crack at the backfield. He’s the most traditional back out of Williams, Ty Montgomery and Aaron Jones, so he puts the situation on lockdown. Then Randall Cobb gets hurt and they shift Ty Montgomery back into the Swiss Army Knife role, leaving Williams as the main man with Aaron Jones as the change-of-pace guy and TyMont getting some backfield snaps, but primarily being out wide.

In reality, TyMont is too fragile to be an every-down banger, and Aaron Jones is a SPARQ Monster but is better suited as an air back. Jamaal Williams already has the head start on the role, and did well with volume last season: in games with double-digit carries, he averaged 93 total yards and was on pace to score ten touchdowns. All that for an eighth-round pick in a twelve team league. Like Ash Ketchum says, “gotta catch Jamaal.”

2018 Fantasy Football Bust – Jimmy Graham, Tight End (ADP 53, TE4)
I already wrote a whole article about Jimmy Graham’s ADP being a total mess. It was enough to make me lose my mind, up in here. When I wrote that article, Graham was going with the first pick of the fifth round in a twelve-team league. Thankfully, fantasy football drafters are successfully driving his ADP down (all the way to 5.02). Don’t waste your time with Jimmy Graham. As DMX (sort of) put it:

You drafters are characters, not even taking good players
What’s gonna be the outcome? Hmm, let’s add up all the factors.
Your ADP’s whack, your routes are twisted, your skills are so-so
You’re old and broke, yardage won’t be yours, and everybody knows.
This old man say your drafters are stupid, they be like, “So?
I love past tense Jimmy Graham; I’ll never let him go.”
