Does Dak’s return mean a WR1 fantasy finish in Lamb’s future?

When Dak Prescott suffered his horrific injury last season, I had just sat down to dinner: I had made the World’s best chicken sandwich recipe and was excited to eat it. After seeing Dak’s leg get twisted, I was almost too sick to eat. But I did, and it was delicious! Just like I recovered to eat the best chicken sandwich recipe, Dak seems to be on pace to start the season at 100%.

Like the Dallas Cowboys’ offense, a great chicken sandwich needs lots of high-end ingredients. Naturally, Dak Prescott is the fresh chicken breast. It used to be that Amari Cooper was the all-important special sauce and Michael Gallup was the pickle. Last season, the Cooper appeared relegated to the pickle role, as CeeDee Lamb broke out straight from the gate. Now, Lamb has had a year to adjust to NFL speed, I expect him to pass Cooper as Dallas’ top back. Heck, Lamb finished only 10 points behind Cooper, last year.

Before we get to the World’s greatest chicken sandwich recipe, let’s start with CeeDee Lamb strategy for snake drafts. He’s being taken, on average, at the  start of the 5th round. That’s a bit lower than I have him, and it’s due to a couple of key factors: People are scared of Dak’s injury, and they forgot how good Lamb was in his first five games. That’s why I don’t mind grabbing Lamb a round sooner. Dak’s injury appears to be healed, and Lamb was really good as a completely new rookie.

For auction, it’s a bit of a different evaluation, not unlike how different a regular and spicy chicken sandwich are. I have him at $8. That doesn’t mean I think his value is $8. I think his value is more $15-$20. However, according to my extensive mock auction research, the bottom will drop out of the wide receiver market somewhere around WR15-20. That means if you wait for value, a key element of my auction strategy, several players in the tier of Lamb/Cooper/Thielen/Woods/Moore/Golladay etc. will go for an amazing deal. It’s better to let that deal fall to you and spend the savings on top-end players with more certainty.

Best Case Scenario:

Lamb picks up his breakout where he left off. Top 10 WR. You make and eat the best chicken sandwich of your life.

Worst Case Scenario:

Lamb comes back down to earth. Still an every-week WR2 slot due to Dallas’ high octane offense. While scrolling and scrolling on your phone to finally get to the World’s best chicken sandwich recipe, your browser glitches from all the ads right before you get there.
