Start or Sit Jimmy Graham, Tyler Eifert, or Jack Doyle in Week 5

This week I’m pinch-hitting (wrong sport, I know) in the Start or Sit columns. This was my baby before I became the primary producer and host of the Football Absurdity Podcast (subscribe wherever you get podcasts!). It feels nice to be back in my old digs, like going back to your home town, but with less hiding from the people you knew in high school. This week, I’m taking the tight ends for a spin, letting you know if I can Beat the Algorithm™ and defeat SkyNet, er, Yahoo! Fantasy Football HPPR projections.

Start or Sit Jimmy Graham, Tyler Eifert, or Jack Doyle in Week 5
Start or Sit Jimmy Graham at Dallas in Week 5

It looks like Davante Adams’ turf toe injury will cost him week five (and likely, week six). That means big news for Jimmy Graham. Davante Adams left the stat sheet entirely with 10:52 left in the fourth quarter of Thursday Night Football. After that moment, Jimmy Graham had 5-of-16 targets for Rodgers. No other player had more than three without Adams. That tells me Graham is in for a big day without Adams this weekend against the Cowboys. Dallas has just one game against a tight end who received over six targets this season, and it was Evan Engram laying the hammer against them week one (11/116/1). While I don’t expect that line out of Jimmy Graham, he should finish well inside the top-ten at the position. Start Jimmy Graham this week in a potential playoff preview.

Yahoo! Fantasy Sports projects Jimmy Graham to score 6.28 fantasy points in Week Five, which indicates they want to sit Jimmy Graham this week.

Start or Sit Tyler Eifert versus Arizona in Week 5

Currently Ranked on FantasyPros: TE11

The average weekly score for the eleventh-ranked TE in 2019: 8.6

Don’t look now, but Tyler Eifert has silenced the haters by playing in four consecutive football games. Just making us look absolutely terrible. Absolute trash. Tyler Eifert has five targets in three-of-four games this season (excepting an effort in Buffalo week three). To be honest with you… he hasn’t done a lot with those targets. However, he’s out-targeted C.J. Uzomah by a wide margin this season, making him Cincinnati’s main tight end. Hoo buddy, let me tell you a thing or two about tight ends going against the Cardinals. Thing one is three different tight ends notching at least 75 yards against them. Thing two is that they’ve yielded six touchdowns to tight ends in four weeks. It’ll be a cakewalk for Eifert on Sunday. Seriously, it’s like they forget tight ends exist. They average one tight end per week putting down at least 15 HPPR fantasy football points. At such a crapshoot position, start Tyler Eifert is an obvious statement.

Yahoo! Fantasy Sports projects Tyler Eifert for just 5.78 fantasy points in week five, indicating Yahoo! Sports suggests sitting Tyler Eifert.

Start or Sit Jack Doyle at Kansas City in Week 5
Currently Ranked on FantasyPros: TE18

The average weekly score of the eighteenth-ranked TE in 2019: 6.8

This one put the whole dang article on hold because I was waiting to see if T.Y. Hilton practiced Wednesday. He missed it, and the scuttlebutt is that Hilton is “progressing,” but the situation sounds guarded for Sunday. Head Coach Frank Reich stated that he’s eying the week six bye in making his decision, which sounds like it’s unlikely Hilton plays this weekend. That’s all I needed to know to tell you to start Jack Doyle. I watched the Colts-Raiders game and let me tell you… yikes. There’s not a lot of realized talent in this Colts receiving corps. Last weekend, Doyle tied with Parris Campbell for the team league in targets and seemed to have the fewest boneheaded drops. He didn’t pop off the stat sheet, but 4/22 with a score gives you far more than the 5.9 points that Yahoo! gives him this week. With the guaranteed volume against a Chiefs defense allowing the sixth-most fantasy points to tight ends, you should start Jack Doyle this weekend.

Yahoo! Fantasy Sports projects Jack Doyle for a measly 5.9 fantasy points in week five, meaning they aren’t recommending starting him.

Now that we have all that out of the way, let’s see how they rank this week:

FantasyPros Expert Consensus Rank: Tyler Eifert, Jimmy Graham, Jack Doyle

Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Football Rank: Tyler Eifert, Jimmy Graham, Jack Doyle

Incredible Handsome Football Absurdity Analyst Jeff Krisko: Tyler Eifert, Jack Doyle, Jimmy Graham

Let’s see how it goes!
