As we gear up to the start of the NFL season, Football Absurdity is going to bring you a comprehensive breakdown of every notable player that will be available in fantasy football drafts.  When you don’t see us talking about Christine Michael or Mike Davis, don’t get mad at us for neglecting your favorite sleeper.  Get mad at yourself for having bad taste in football players.  We are only focusing on the top-rated players in standard scoring and points per game leagues.

With my player profiles, I’ve only decided to go back to look at their fantasy scoring for three years.  This time frame gives a better understanding to the fantasy owner who has shown a strong consistency. One year wonders and flash-in-the-pans happen every season. However, the top flight players always remain.  I’ve also added a chart for their usage over that time span.  We will try to determine, based on those two factors, where the best quarterback value lies.

Overview: Ben Roethlisberger had perhaps the best season in his 15-year career. He totaled his highest touchdowns (34), the most yards (5129), most attempts (675), and most completions (452). It was also only the fifth time as a pro that he didnt make the playoffs. With the turmoil of Le’Veon Bell not showing up the entire season, and the Antonio Brown fiasco, things finally bubbled over in Steel town. However, Roethlisberger was good enough to finish as the 3rd QB. The Steelers awarded him with a nice two-year $68 million dollar extension, keeping him in Pittsburgh until the 2021 season.

Strategy: Football Absurdity’s  Auction Value ($200 Budget): $6

Ben Roethlisberger had his best season and got paid; that is the good news. The bad news is that he will need to get used to a change in scenery very quickly. With Bell in New York  and Brown in Oakland, Roethlisberger will need to feed the rock to the likes of James Conner and Donte Moncrief. Maybe it will be James Washington? Perhaps, rookie Dionte Johnson, or Ryan Switzer? Look for a fall in production, whoever it is. He is chalk as a mid-tier QB2. He will probably go before then. Roethlisberger played in all 16-games for the first time since 2014. Even though Roethlisberger has a list of injuries, he has been pretty steady: He only missed 24 games in his career.

Best Case Scenario: Ben Roethlisberger gets used to his change in dynamics and gels with his new receivers. He finishes in the top-10 of quarterbacks.

Worst Case Scenario: Roethlisberger struggles with the new look and falls below a QB20.
